Thank Goodness, another Notes from Spain podcast at last! We answer questions put to us on travel and life in Spain. Here is some of the info we promised to put on the blog:
Our favourite restaurant in Madrid: Taberna Miranda on Plaza Conde de Miranda
Nice, and cheap, hotels in Spain: NH and Tryp Hotels, and in Madrid,
Hostal Barrera on Calle Atocha – 55 euros for a double, phone number: 91 527 53 81, and the Hostal Macarena.
An amazing place to visit in May is the Sierra de Aracena, and partcularly the town of Almonaster la Real (an hour west of Seville and an hour north of Huelva).
See the in-madrid.com classifieds for a place to find intercambios.

Another nice one. Thanks for the tips, and of course all the best for your Indian trip. You are, unquestionably, a braver man than I

When I come to Madrid I always book a hostel via
http://www.Madrid-30-per-night.com/.
I have only had one bad experience. However, the “30-per-night” bit seems to have risen to 40 since the new year. I have just checked the site and there are still a few at less than 30! But it doesn’t really matter where you stay as the madrid metro is great for getting about.

When I went to Madrid in 2004, we stayed in a chain called
“Petite Palace” in one called “Londres”
it was very well located in the plaza del sol, though our taxi driver couldn’t
find the hotel because it was on a pedestrian only street.
I’m an internet geek, and you can get rooms there with internet, and they also have computers to share in the eating area. Our price was about 100 Euro per night, but it was more of a business class hotel, not cheap..

I usually use the web site TripAdvisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/ for finding good value hotels and then telephone the hotel direct. The opinions of many others on an hotel are most useful and even if differing, give a good flavour of the place. As a result, I have stayed in fabulous places in Spain (Granada, Seville and so on) together with other countries. Hints for Cadiz and Valencia welcome
