Ourense Market

Ben and Marina visit the wonderful market in Ourense to do some much needed shopping before heading back to Madrid from Galicia. See more photos of the market on Flickr.

I love your slice-of-life podcasts, together with the ambient sounds. The photos on Flickr are great as visual clues!
My wife is from a tiny village 100km from Ourense (near Verin). We have been to the market in Ourense and agree that it is special.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

Very nice photos on Flickr. One of them has a little shop with a sign that says “Mugares” What does this mean? I can’t find it in my dictionary.

    Hola Patty,

Mugares it’s a town in Orense. So I guess the bread stoll has taken the town name.

Ben and Marina, just discovered your website whilst planning a trip to Ourense and Lugo. Sadly the small market culture has been killed off here, as soon as EECt rules started to apply and VAT came into being stallholders stopped bringing their produce into town.

However you might enjoy the Feria de Jamon in Aracena in late October. We’re about 8kms from Jabugo, too, and we raise and kill our own pigs.

@Sam, I’m sorry to hear about the market, it was wonderful!
