Top 10 Spanish Celebrities: 9 – Ana Obregón

Ana ObregonIt’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for 45 year old Ana lately. She was of course the woman at the centre of another alleged Beckham affair (news of which fizzled out almost as quickly as it started, so it could’ve all been dreamt up by her own self-publicising imagination). This "hit and run” trend continued last year when she tried her hand at creating a Madrid-based version of Sex and the City called "Ellas y el sexo débil” which arrived in a blaze of publicity, only to sink faster than the Titanic (on account of the fact that it was crap!). Even the politest gossip mags had to stick the boot in a little bit on that one! Being branded a failure hasn’t stopped Ana though, and she’s now back with a vengeance with a new boyfriend 18 years younger than her – a Polish guy called Darek who was working as a stripper when she snapped him up. One thing you can’t accuse her of is shyness, and tales of her bedroom antics with her new man are now propping up news-kiosks all over Spain. Whoever first said "any publicity is good publicity” probably had Ana Obregón in mind! A short clip of the demise of her series can be seen here (Videos of Darek doing his day-job are also on the net, but I’ll let you find them yourselves! ☺):

Finally, a quick bonus clip of Ana speaking English to a certain ‘Victoria’:

Being a biologist myself, I can’t help noting that for some reason she is also the most famous biologist in Spain. Actually, many times that I am introduced to anyone and say what I studied, I get the comment: “¡Anda, como Ana Obregón!”

Are you saying she studied as a biologist once upon a time, before she unleashed her many talents?

I don’t know anything about this gal, but I’ll say this:

What’s so bad about a full-grown good-looking woman playing the TV-fame game? Believe me, this is not limited to Spain! We have it in Holland, and of course the USA has tons of this rubbish. I’d much rather watch this one than Jessica Simpson.

She’s still around!??!?! What a pity… I though after being for almost a decade away from Spain certain things would disappear…I guess not ;oP

For an educated woman, she does come across as a bit brain dead at times. The clip with the interview above makes her look completely vacant :-0

She didn’t do that bad in her series “Ana y los siete”, which was in the peak of the audience for many years in Spain. She mixed the formula of a Sexy Mary Poppins which was loved by children and also by their dads. She also managed to sell her idea to many other countries where the series was copied. So she can’t be completely stupid. (I tried to find a video of this series in You tube but all the available ones are mocks of her)

Regarding her new boyfriend, I don’t understand a thing: either she is desperate to get someone to go out with or she wants to be back in the cover of Hola because is totally clear that he is making the most of her “fame”.

Stop the press! Reason number 1: There’s a possibility that she’s now pregnant! She has been in Barcelona last week (with Darek) at a clinic known for treating stars and was photographed leaving with a huge smile on her face. (Well, that confirms it then! :-) )

Stop the press (again)! Reason number 2: I was apparently wrong to say she was 45. She’s now reported as being both 51 and 52 (in the same edition of the same magazine!)

I like ‘Ana y los siete’ too. It’s fun to watch and the rapid-fire dialogues are a true challenge. ;-)

I was going to say, she’s not that good looking for a 45 year old. I also have to beg to differ, better looking than Jessica Simpson? I wish I could post that Jessica Simpson video “These boots were made for walking” here to illustrate :)

Valencia Son – I have seen that video, I am familiar w/ J Simpson. My wife used to watch her MTV “reality”-series sometimes. Perhaps it is our difference in age that inclines you to find her attractive, while I find her to be an unattractive dumb-as-the-day-is-long American white-bread idiot. Sorry, but she don’t do it for me!

I like girls my own age, I guess.
