Tapas of the week: Motadito de Jamon Iberico
by Ben Curtis

Motados, often called by the diminutive term Montaditos, are a mini-meal in themselves. Take a palm-sized baguette and insert almost any tasty morsel you can imagine - from squid to tortilla, pork fillet to slices of Manchego cheese - and that’s it, the perfect snack! The photo above shows my personal favourite, the elite, the unbeatable montadito de jamon iberico: several slices of Spain’s finest Iberian ham lovingly clasped in slightly warmed bread. And what better accompaniment than a glass of Andalusia’s finest Cruzcampo beer? Heaven.
What would you put in your dream montadito?

I’m sure in heaven there is a much better beer than watery Cruzcampo - a Mahou or Estrella would go much better with the montadito.

I’ll go with Cruzcampo & leave heavenly debates to others.

I just love those montaditos too, “lomo con pimientos” is one of my favorites. The problem is, they always leave you wanting more.

i think your dream montadito would only be improved by me with some tomato and olive oil rubbed on the bread and a cold mahou (i agree with graeme on your beer choice!
).

I thought they were called pulgas. Is there a difference between montaditos and pulga?

Actually a “montadito” is usually a slice of bread with something on top, and a “pulga” is a small bocadillo (small baguette with something inside), but “montadito” in many places is a small bocadillo as well.

Re the beer: Mahou may be better, but this photo was taken in Andalusia wher C-Campo is the beer you find in most places - and it tastes pretty good in that part of the world!

Yummy, jamón ibérico sounds fine to me! And so does queso manchego. ![]()

Absolutely only chorizo, or sobrasada or jamon iberico or salchichon Vic or longaniza or lomo or any embutido with manchego…

I take Katies improvement for my favourite montadito!!!
Sandy, the pulguita is even smaller than a montadito. It is usually like a two bites thingny.

[…] Yesterday was regional elections day here in Spain. The general opinion is that it was a bit of a draw between the big guys, the PP and the ruling PSOE. As I have far more fun analyzing wild Spanish Fiestas and Tapas, I thought I should leave it up to other eminent Spain bloggers to let you know exactly what went down. […]
