I just searched Google for ’setting up an online business in Spain’ and found your site. The article was very useful and I am tempted to read the books you recommended. I live in southern Spain and am about to embark on setting up an online company… As soon as the website is up and running I’ll be back to let you know.

I just found this site and this blog. I love it already and the spirit I find here is … well, contagious.
I’m a single, middle-aged woman with a lifelong dream of living in Spain. Visa and work permit restrictions have been barriers up to now. But now with the ‘Net it may finally be coming true before too long — if I can find profitable niches. I have nothing up yet, I’m still learning. But I continue to get ideas. I hope to meet some of you there very soon!

My main advice to anyone setting up an online business would be to be prepared to invest a lot of time and effort in your idea before it starts to pay off. Many potentially good websites are ruined because their creators try to cash in too early on whatever popularity they have achieved and drive away new visitors with overbearing banner adverts and unrealistic subscription charges.

Follow the Google example, create something genuinely useful and the traffic and revenue will eventually come. Have faith in your idea and persevere but don’t expect the millions to start rolling in overnight!

Great Post! If you’re going the blogging route then you might want to check out:

1. ProBlogger.net for blogging advice
2. Sitepoint.com for buying an established online business (if you don’t want to mess with creating one yourself).

Also, don’t forget, in the US at least, lots of companies are allowing 100% remote employees. You just have to look!

(My husband and I both work for fortune 500 companies remotely– I manage software teams all over the country, he creates advertising and manages campaigns for clients)

1. Yes, this post was very useful.
2. I can’t think of any favourite website, except yours. Yours was the first one I joined and learned by doing how to navigate it. (Women…)

My personal goal is not to make money on-line, I prefer the writing part. Of course, if more money came in (in 15 months of my blog, I have not even met the $100.- pay out limit yet), that would be pleasing.
But I will keep watching and learning.
