BBC Geography Error?
by Ben Curtis

Is it just me, or is there an error in this story from the BBC?

I just clicked on the link and they’ve changed the title to “UK cruise ship is held in Madeira”.

Looks like someone at the BBC has got out their World Atlas and corrected the mistake! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7327411.stm

I´m glad you´ve posted this, as I read the report on the BBC yesterday and was tearing over each word in the report to see how they could justify Madeira as being Spanish. It´s not like the Beeb to get their facts wrong afterall!
Thanks for confirming it was a mistake afterall and clearing up my curiosity!

@ Pepino:
Well I was thinking that someone in their “Humour Dept.” was one day out for April Fool’s Day. It’s would have been slightly more assuming than their flying penguins story! However at least it gave their CGI people an opportunity to do a nice flying penguin animation. Good to see the license fee going to good use!

Talking of mistakes, I meant to say “more amusing than their flying penguins story”.What is it about spotting typos the second after pressing the “Send Button”!

maybe they got the info from the Royal Marines. I watched a video not long ago that showed them storming a beach in Spain and then quickly getting back in the boat when they realized that it wasn’t Gibraltar. ![]()
