Gary: I remember the radiator, but my A/C was definitely off, which was great since it was January. I really loved the neighborhood, though.

I stayed at the Hotel Market exactly a year ago, and I just cracked up reading your description of the elevator. The clerk didn't really explain what I was supposed to do, so I wound up completely lost and in a strange, somewhat seedy apartment building that seemed to suddenly appear around me. Once I got the hang of it I loved the hotel, and my ultra-modern room.

@ValenciaSon
The AVE between Barcelona and Madrid has been running since February 2008 - the journey is now only about 2 1/2 hours, so I no longer have excuses not to visit Madrid although so far I've only gone as far as Zaragoza where my better half's family live.
The AVE line from Barcelona to the French TGV network is scheduled to open in 2012 and that will also be the main route from Madrid to France.
The AVE line from Madrid to Valencia is still a work in progress and I'm not sure on the plans for Barcelona to Valencia (AVE trains currently stop at Tarragona). Trains from Valencia to BCN currently take around 3 hours.

I love these Gary-BCN blogs! Any news on the AVE obra going on there? I would love to be able to AVE away to BCN with my family to spend a day or two in Gaudi/Rambla-land.

Gary - I looked at the website for your hotel... it looks pretty nice, but then the site started playing music that sounded just like the backing track for an 80's XXX-film! I was laughing too much to continue...

thanks for the tips, looks like I might have to try Barcelona again sometime.
