Hi

Posted a message a couple of days ago but unfortunately it has been wiped..asi el la vida!

Have been listening to the podcasts for a while and they have been fascinating, and have finally decided to move to Spain - maybe for a few months or a few years. I lived in Granada (studying and teaching) in 1999 and travelled and lived in South America so I speak fair to middling Spanish. So, I'm really after some advice. I'd really like to immerse myself in Spain and so would prefer to live in a smallish city. I recently spent a couple of days in Oviedo and loved it (even the rain) so I'd love to hear from anyone either there or Zaragoza (another lovely tourist-free city). I've been teaching English for years so does anyone know of any good English schools? Other employment options etc?

Gracias

Hi Dilano!!!
I might be able to give you some advice seeing as I lived in Oviedo for a year just last year. As you already know Oviedo is a beautiful city, weather's not the best, but the beauty of the city makes up for it. There are various academias de ingles in Oviedo, having experience will definately help you out, (I had none but still got a job anyway). I got paid 8 euros an hour, but I was only 18 w/ no experience or certificates, so you could probably get 10ish in an academy. Of course private clases particulares are also good, and pay more...I worked in an academy called Hello Centro de ingles, it was ok, nice people, I mostly taught kids though, which is reeeeeeally tough. There are a number of others which are probably a bit more professional, just phone up the academias, and put up ads in university faculties, libaraies etc. All of this worked for me so i don't know why it wouldn't for you. I don't know about other jobs, you'd need fairly good spanish probably. I know there's an iternational students bar called Moloko, you could try there maybe. If you're young, I can tell you there are a lot of young university students so there's a great ambiente in Oviedo...Like you said very few tourists, only in the summer and they're almost exclusively Spanish...So you'll be very immersed in Spanish which is the best way to perect your Spanish of course. I'd just wish you luck wherever you go, but I gotta say that Asturias is really great...

Hi, I'm from Zaragoza. There are loads of english academias here where you should likely find a job. As a student i was years ago in one that i consider rather good called International House. Haven't got a clue about the wages tho
