'vacunear la carpeta' has to be my favorite Spanglish phrase. I don't think I could ever bring myself to use any of the Spanglish phrases mentioned in the article though, I still have memories of getting in trouble at school for using Spanglish!

Reading the exerpt of Don Quijote was interesting since it was about the same mix of Spanish and English that I use when reading anything in Spanish. Pretty strange to see it written out when I try so hard to NOT translate words in my head!

Thanks for the link, Edith

I don't think I would bring myself to use those expresions either. However Ben and me fall into the first category of Spanglish speakers - those ones that mix both lenguages in the same sentence. Which is more or less fine when we are alone but then sometimes when I'm speaking with other people in Spanish there are some words that only come to my mind in English:mad:

You're welcome! :)

LOL, Spanglish. Some people hate it, others love it. Anyway, it's a reality in many parts of the US-Mexican borderlands. Personally, I try to stay clear of Spanglish because it can be very confusing. You mention the word 'carpeta'. In standard Spanish, 'carpeta' means folder - the brown paper ones used in offices and archives! Spanglish can be charming though. I remember someone saying 'voy a tomar un brequecito'. That just sounded so funny!

Last night I listened to some of the audio fragments in 'Español, lengua mestiza'. They are very interesting.
