I just thought I'd mention that I've been watching the 4-part series Latin Music USA. Its been showing how Latin_american music has influenced USA music over the last 100-odd years. The final part is tonight (Friday) on BBC 4 at 9:00 pm GMT & is repeated a few times in the next 7 days.
Its been truly excellent: entertaining, educational & inspiring to watch. Some of it hasn't reflected well on historical attitudes to the Spanish-speaking segment of the US population.
Saturday update: I was looking forward to this final episode but found it the least interesting of the four. It seemed more about the exploitation of Latin talent for $$: where endless energy is expended to achieve crossover into the US pop culture. Turning talented Latino/a artists blatantly into glamorous sex symbols.
Nevertheless, a series worthy of acclaim
