Hi

sorry but opened this thread in wrong section - still getting to grips with the forum.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has found work teaching English to adults. I'm an experienced TEFL teacher with a DELTA qualification and I'm planning to move to Spain to live and work next year. The problem is that most language academies want their teachers to teach kids classes and I really don't want to do that.

I know work is relatively easy to find in Madrid or Barcelona but I'm thinking of going to a smaller city (Zaragoza, Granada, Oviedo). They are all university cities so does anyone know how to wrangle a job teaching undergraduates? Or in-company classes?

Any help would be appreciated.

Gracias

Hi Dilano, I would say that sending a CV out to the universities well in advance would be a good starting point, then following up with phone calls or emails until you get a definitive answer. Sorry I can't be more help at the moment, but I imagine for company classes the best bet would be to look for work once you are in situ. I had a friend that taught English in Granada about 9 years ago and in the end he left for Madrid as it was so hard to get regular work. I imagine it is easier there now, but getting a universtiy job sorted before turning up would be the best idea.

My friend here on the Costa Blanca is TEFL qualified and teaches English to adult Spanish at a language school. Mind you, the wages are terrible and she is only contracted for 16 hours a week. Although she usually gets a lot more than that most weeks, she still sometimes has to travel to the school to do just a one hour lesson and she doesn't get travel costs!
