I loved "Platero y yo" by Juan Ramón Jimenez" - A classic chiuldrens´ book with very short chapters, each a story in itself of a man and his life in a small town with his donkey (Platero)
There were a few obscure words but just ignore them and read on and you´ll probably get their meaning.

Ch 1 Platero

I recently stumbled upon this (http://www.codyscuentos.com) site. It has audio and transcripts and it's all free!! Of course, they are children's stories but it's got some of the classics, Peter and the Wolf, Peter Pan etc. Very handy for learning purposes.

Cheers

Try this site http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~fernand4/ (http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/%7Efernand4/)

It's not a book, but an online collection of short stories by various authors. Some of them also have English translations if you want to check your understanding.
