Came across this on a website,

We were sampling a delicious paella one afternoon at a street bar

And the Spanish translation was,
Muestreábamos una paella deliciosa una tarde en un bar de la calle

Can you use the verb mostrar in this sense? I'd have thought probar might have been a better choice, but I'm certainly no expert, I'm here to learn, so I'd welcome any informed feedback

In Castillian you would certainly use probar. However it is possible that in some South American countries they use "Muestrear" for me it sounds like they've used a bad quality automatic translator;-))

And me! This was in mainland Spain, in Andalucia!
Later on it said,

Then, after an impassioned and deeply respectful introduction, Popi was invited to take the stage.
Entonces, después de una introducción apasionada y profundamente respetuosa, se invitó a Popi que tomara la etapa.

"Etapa" is a stage, as in ciclismo, or a stage in someboby's life, ¿no?
I think it must be partly a machine translation!!!!

Definately they must be using an automatic translator;-)
