I discovered Notes in Spanish a couple of weeks ago, just in time to download the Intermediate Podcasts on my iPod and print the transcripts to take with me on my flight to Madrid last week. I just returned to the US last night and all I have time to say is that one week in Madrid is only long enough to be a tease! I Loved it! Luckily, I was able to go with a friend who is from Madrid so I had a "private guide". Listening to the podcasts before my trip made a difference in how much I was able to understand my friend and her family in Madrid!

My question is....are there any books of short stories that you know of that my friends and I could find in Spanish and English? We get together at least once a week here for my friends from Spain to practice english and for me to practice spanish. (I didn't know we were intercambios until I heard it on one of the Notes in Spanish podcasts!) Anyway, we have thought of adding some reading and book discussion to our meetings. A sort of spanish/english book club. But, whole novels are a bit beyond our language skills at this point.

Thanks for any ideas,
Shelly

Hi Shelly -

I probably have 50 books for learning Spanish on my shelves, including several dual-language books.

I know I have at least 5-10. Off the top of my head, I remember these:

Stories from .....(4 books - Stories from Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico and Latin America).

Short Stories by the Generation of 1898

There's also a section on this forum called Learning Spanish where we've discussed some good (and not so good) books for learning.

Hi Shelly and welcome to the forums!

It is great to know that the podcasts and transcripts have been helpful for your trip.

Regarding your question I know there are short verions of real books for learners both in English and Spanish (I read the short version of The picture of Dorian Gray once). What I'm not very sure is if you will find the same titles and authors in both lenguages. I would recommend to visit a specialised language book shop and see what you can find. If not the learner will have to read the short version and the native the real one.

It would be great if you could share some pics or secret places from your trip to Madrid with the Notes from Spain community.

Thanks to you both for your help and ideas. I will check them out.

Marina, When I organize my pictures, etc. I will try to share some with NIS. Where is the best place to post them?

Thanks again,
Shelly

Thanks Shelly!

There are two places where you can insert them. The first one is the Notes from Spain group in flickr (http://www.flickr.com/groups/notesfromspain/) and the other is directly in the Forums in the section Your NFS:share expiriences and photos (http://www.notesfromspain.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14&order=desc).
