Has anyone tried, with any success, skype conference calls or Skypecasts. I have used the conference calls with spanishconversationsworldwide with variable success due to break up of sound quality. But the idea is great for language learning and I have made some good virtual acquaintences

All my experiences with Skype have been really good.:thumbs-up:

We are actually pretty dependent on Skype because we live in Peru and all our family live in the U.S.

I've spoken with Viajero a couple of times just to practice our Spanish and it worked out really well.

Thanks Ryan

Mine seems to have settled down a bit - 1:1 seems successful. I am surprised you need to practise your spanish since I think of you as one of my sources of learning. I am pleased that you plan to keep your web site going when your posting comes to an end.

Mastering a language takes a lifetime! I'll always need practice!

I did a 3-way Skype conference the other day England-Germany-Australia. It worked fine and the line quality was very good. The rates to land-lines tend to be good as well.

What I also like are the virtual Skype-In numbers, so you can have eg. a London phone number which actually routes to your laptop somewhere in the world or even to your land-line if you pay the forwarding costs.

Skype out is great as well for calling abroad from here, though as soon as my credit is used up I think I'll move over to Jajah (http://www.jajah.com/), where you can call from landline to landline for free (for Spain to the UK or US for example, if both numbers are registered and you have a minimum in your account).

Hello Alan:
I just downloaded Skype, and am having a little difficulty configuring it to work properly and just discovered your post....I went to Skype and tried typing: Alan Malarkey...I'm assuming that's you! But I don't want to call without your permission. If it's ok - then I will. I'm in California and I believe you're in Eng. where it's 8hrs. later. If it's ok -then tell me a good time and day for you and if I haven't totally messed up my settings - I'll try to give you a ring.
cheers,
Margot

Hi Margot

I'm no expert but try around 9 pm UGC/GMT on Sunday or any time you see that I am on line which is quite often in the evening. I will send you my skype name and telephone number in a private message.

hasta proxima

Alan
