Has anyone tried Second Life (http://secondlife.com/)? Seems like a potentially collosal waste of useful time to me, but also potentially quite good fun and maybe a place for a virtual meeting of Notes from Spain fans? Maybe a place to try out a virtual intercambio?!

Even Reuters is in there (http://www.20minutos.es/noticia/162891/0/reuters/second/life/)!

Never heard of it before, so had a quick look, but not really sure what it is all about! Buying virtual land etc? Might be useful, but must admit after only a quick look, my first thought would be to move on!

No, I haven't, but from what I've read I would go for the 'colossal waste of useful time' option. Perhaps it should be re-named 'Substitute for Life';D

I did play with it a bit a while back (think I still have an account) but I suspect it is a little overhyped and as others say you can lose a lot time.

An intercambio may work fine. I guess it would not be so much different from using a traditional chat client except that it would be a more visual experience.

Yes, what a waste of time and money!!!
I`ve heard about this site and similar ones on the tv- news in norway. A while back they made a story to warn parents, about children and teenagers bying "land" and "houses - furnitures, tv, cars" etc. on sites like this with their parents credit- cards, without the parents knowing off course. Apparently it was THE thing to do amongst young people, and a lot off peer presure to have the most land, or the must stuff in the house on the land etc.

Apparently Duran Duran are to stage a 'live' concert in Second life - so no reason to suppose that the 'collosal waste of useful time' epithet won't apply, then!
