Hi
I am going to be living in Alicante for a semester on a study abroad trip for university. I will be there as of January 2007. Do you have any advice for things to do while I am there? Thanks.

If you go to Benidorm stick to playa poniente - more spanish less commercialised, even playa levantes not rowdy now its full of ex pat pensioners - or Saga louts as they are affectionately called!
Find the end of Parque de Elche which runs along the promenade - over the crossing to Yago artisan de dulces for a coffee and choice of exquisite confection. on the road that runs above parque de elche is an italian restaurant - on the right as you walk from Yago - Antonios I think - great costini!

If you can find Cava Aragonesa (just on the levante beach side of the old town) youll get great tapas then walk through the back and out the other way - its like being in another world - a very spanish one... If you find the fruit wagon at the Old town end of Parque de Elche and walk up the gentle slope towards the old town you will come to an unmistakeable seafood restaurant on your right - turn right into the narrow street Cava Arragonesa is at the other end of that street though there are so many other little bars you might not make it!!

Have a great trip

Here is a good website to get the lowdown on Alicante (http://www.alicante-spain.com/alicante-spain-author.html)Heather. Some of the members on my site know Alicante well too, so might be worth asking in the Alicante forum for anything you want to know specifically. (see my signature for link)
Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your stay.

I qualify too - cept I'm not an ex pat! It is strange, though when you go on holiday to Benidorm, go out have a meal and a few drinks and around midnight you start off home, only to pass herds of septagenarians that have just stepped out at the beginning of their night!!!

Well Heather you will definitely have fun. We have been to Alicante 3 times now and think it is really good. The old part of town is dominated by Santa Barbara castle which is ontop of a hill overlooking the harbour and offers spectacular views. You gain access to the castle by going down an underground tunnel (lovely and cool in summer) and then up a long slow lift for a few euros. There are also good beaches infront of the castle and lots of good restaurantes and bars in town.

I am turning green with envy already .......:smug:
