Marina,
I heard rumors that your teaching yoga classes now and I have a curious question for you. I have a massive kink in my right hip and I want to get it out. Do you have any postures you can suggest for me?

Hi Gabriela,
The rumor is not completely accurate:D:D:D
I'll be starting the teacher training course next weekend so I don't think it would be wise of me to recommend you any asanas at this point.
I hope you get better soon.
Marina.

How unfortunate for me, but how lucky for you. How long is the course? Where are you taking it? What type of yoga are you studying? I wish you all the best this weekend!

The course is one weekend a month and it is on Hatha yoga.
I'll tell you more about it after my first weekend, at the moment I'm not very sure what to expect;). I'm really looking forward to it!

Hi Marina,
How did you get into Yoga? What about it appeals to you? Has yoga become popular in Spain?

Ben went to yoga for a few months and after a while I joined him in a class near our old flat in Lavapies. Sonia, the teacher, was very good and I started to feel the phisical benefits immediately (my posture was better and I had no more backaches at work, I was stronger...). The mental ones took me a while longer to start to process. Then I started to read some books and also when we moved house I started to practise at home on my own. My interest in yoga grew and I decided to do the training course more or less a year ago. To get prepared I've been attending to an Iyengar class for nearly a year now.
Regarding your final question Yoga is very popular in Spain at the moment, together with Pilates and Tai-chi.

That's great about the teacher training course, Marina! I'm looking forward to hearing about it. My yoga teacher here in St Andrews could use a training course--I think she forgets that its not an aerobics class with the amount of shouting and running around she does.
I'm a huge fan of yoga ever since getting some stress fractures in my low spine. Yoga helped to stabilize the whole area and really reduced the pain. Plus, my posture and flexibility were better within about 2 weeks of starting yoga. Its amazing how quickly you see a difference with yoga compared to other forms of exercise.

I wish I could get into it again, but after doing it a few years ago for about a year, I used to get soooo bored - it was all just happening far too slowly for me. I think I have a big patience problem. But when I was doing it I certainly noticed that I felt a lot more full of energy. Nowadays an hour's walk around the Retiro is the best I can do exercise-wise!

I'm not a teacher, but I've been doing yoga for almost 10 years.
Try pigeon pose.....my favourite hip opener.

If you've never done this, go easy. It's not for everyone!

Good luck with your course, Marina!
After my daughter became a teacher, I decided to try yoga too - in a class with a group of grannies like myself (several even quite a bit older - never too late to start!). Now I can't live without it, it seems.

After so many years of "teaching" - in class and at home - it is nice to realize how much I can learn from my students and children.
And even nicer: what I have to learn because of them - Spanish, for instance. By the way, our second grandchild, Amelie Caterina, was born on Friday the 13th in Chile. What a lucky day for us - the same date as our oldest daughter in India, Katharina. (I have been told, however, that Tuesday the 13th is the so-called bad luck day in Chile. Is this true for Spain, too?)
Ooops - I think I have strayed away from the yoga topic.

Congratulations for your new grandchild Amelie, what a coincidence that she was born the same day as your daughter. When are you going to Chile to meet the sweety?
In Spain originally the bad luck day is Tuesday the 13th, but due to the influence of American films some people also consider Friday the 13th as the bad luck day.

In about 10 days! I can't wait ;D (even if the trip to Puerto Montt takes, if all goes well, about 25 hours  )
