We received this email last week:

Ben, Marina

My name is Sophia Chiang and I am heading up the marketing efforts at VoiceIndigo, a provider of solutions for mobile podcasting. We recently launched a new service MOBILIZE for podcasters. This is a FREE service that enables mobile phone listeners to download and hear your podcasts directly from your website. www.voiceindigo.com/podcasters (http://www.voiceindigo.com/podcasters)

This is great for podcasters because it allows you to deliver directly from your website; no need to go to another site, download software, register, etc… As you well know, mobile cell phones are increasingly used for entertainment and audio programming and VoiceIndigo’s MOBILIZE is the first service that is designed specifically to help podcasters easily extend their listener base.

Is this of interest to anyone?

I don't get the benefit. I can access this site on my mobile already - why would i need Mobilize? Unless it was sent to me free of charge (i.e. I didn't need to pay for the data - and I don't know, maybe that's the idea) it wouldn't be of any interest to me.

I download the free podcast and listen to it on my iPod Shuffle. If I didnt have the iPod Shuffle icould simply bluetooth it to my phone.

I cant help feeling that its free to you, Ben, as content provider but not free uo the recipients.

Bandwidth on a mobile costs a little over £2 per Meg so if we are charged for the data traffic it could cost way over £20 per episode - that I can get free, legally and wth the authors blessing, err.....?

Maybe its sent as a media message and they put Ads in it.

Theres no way I'd sign up without knowing what the business model was - and reading the small print - do I tie myself to a minimum amount of shows, cost per show.... de da de da de da.....

Theres no such thing as a free lunch as far as telecoms is concerned.

The WordReference dictionary on the mobile makes so much sense but this? I dunno.....
