Volunteer work

Vivo en Getafe (la verdadera capital de la Comunidad de Madrid ;D) y pretendo trabajo de forma voluntario dentro de Madrid. Me encantaría encontrar algo en, por ejemplo, un museo, instituto cultural, biblioteca o algo así. Hablo español casi bien, claro que no con fluidez, pero todavía bien. En realidad, quiero ser voluntario para poder practicar el español cotidiano. Como soy estadounidense my english is outstanding :thumbs-up: y tengo capacidad con HTML.

Bueno, la pregunta es .... ¿alguien me puede dar consejo en cómo se busca cosas así? He estado buscando paginas del web para cualquier menciona de la palabra voluntario(s) pero sin éxito.

I live in Getafe (the true capital of the Community of Madrid), and I'm looking for volunteer work in Madrid proper. I'd love to find something in, say, a museum, cultural institute, library, etc. I speak Spanish pretty well, certainly not fluently but well. The hope is that this kind of work will throw me, head first, into daily Spanish conversation. On top of the obvious knowledge of English, I can also do some HTML (not an expert, but I've made some functional websites).

So ... does anyone have any advice for how to go about this? I've tried looking for volunteer info on some web pages but to no avail. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The Communidad de Madrid has an official volunteers page which may throw something up, though I think it is more social stuff. There is a list of NGO's there as well. The link is:

Hello Malcom, hello everyone else,

did you start to volunteer? How did it go? I want to do the same thing but my spanish is not very good and I will only be in Madrid for a short time. Do you know if there are any programmes where you can just participate on short notice and volunteer for a day, or week or something like this?

Cruz Roja (Red Cross) always welcomes volunteers. Head on to their offices or phone them. I know someone who volunteered at a children's hospital after contacting Cruz Roja, and he said it was a wonderful experience.
