here's a little article from Malaga's Diario Sur discussing how the Euro has affected consumer prices in Spain:

I think most people in the Euro-zone have experienced this inflation. Here in Holland we have, though maybe not to such a staggering degree. The funny part is listening to the politicians blithely prattling on about how the Euro did NOT cause inflation. Apparently it's all in our heads and we're just imagining it all.

Maybe the Euro has contributed, especially in the service sector but it does not explain the steep rise in council taxes, water charges, energy and many more that I have noticed in the last 4.5 years since I came here to live. I suspect that the prices in Spain were artificially held low, and as people want better and more services all these rises were inevitable.
One thing you can be sure of - going back to the peseta would not mean a corresponding fall in prices;D

Our Minister of Finance, Gerrit Zalm, openly admits he never ever goes to a supermarket... I don't think he's got a clue... ¡vaya gilli****s! (can I say the word out loud on this forum?) ;D
