My girlfriend and I are going to Spain in March for about 2 or 3 months to decide whether or not to move. We are both U.S. citizens. She went to Spain a few years back and fell in love with the country and somehow convinced me that I will also. I grew up in Brasil so spanish won't be too much of a problem. Anyways, can anyone offer a suggestion on whether we should book a hotel for a week and search for a flat when we get there, or try to do everything online and risk kicking ourselves later. Another issue is I am an avid motorcyclist and can't stand the thought of being without a bike for too long. How difficult will it be for me to buy and register a motorcycle in Spain with an American passport. Oh yeah, We are thinking about Barcelona as a starting point since we are in our late 20's. If anyone can offer any suggestions I would be eternally grateful;D

It depends on what you're looking for. What did your girlfriend like about Spain previously? If it was the nighlife then Barcelona's a good choice. If it was the cost of living, then maybe not. Remember the Catalan issue as well. If you're here for the long haul you'll have to learn some at some point. (i've been avoiding the question).

Hello,
I hope you are well and your plans to move going well. I think you should find a hotel and do your house hunting when you get here. I think it may be a cheaper way of finding a more suitable space than negotiations pver the internet. Atleast you get the vibe of the place, where its near to etc...

Hola MiamiDude - My wife and I are moving to salamanca so we have some of the same questions as you. We found some short term holiday type apartment rentals and we will probably rent one for 2 - 3 weeks while we search for an apartment. Have fun!

I think booking a place for 2 weeks seems to be the best bet. Thanks guys.
