Why is it impossible to get a meal with vegetables in restaurants? I do not mean the accompanying salad, but proper peas, carrots etc. My Spanish friends all tell me they eat them at home, so why don't they appear on menus?http://qsmile.com/qsimages/306.gif

Sorry to disagree. It's very common to have vedgies in Spain, the thing is that we have them as a separete dish (usually as a starter) instead of having them in the same plate with the meat or fish. In a way I understand your confusion as I was quite disapointed when in England vedgies and meat came in the same plate:o
Now I've got used to it and it's fine for me:D
What I would recommend is to check the starters menu for: Menestra, Guisantes (peas) , Acelgas (I think it is chard -I know most of u hate it), Alcachofas (Artichokes) or Esparragos (Asparragus) and order one of them as a side dish of your meat or fish instead of having it as a starter.

Haha, I know here in the US, you are lucky to not get anything without vegetables

Maybe not in traditional food, but the number of Oriental wok restaurants is increasing by the minute.
