Hola!
I'm going to Seville this saturday, until friday next week - Any suggestions as to what to see, where to eat, go out etc? I'm staying near to where the bullring is.
Gracias xxxx

Oh, and also, any suggestions as to buying a cheap spanish sim card so I can make in-spain calls without it costing me more than I have on my phone? I heard there was some good offers about, one you can buy for about 15euros, and it comes with 30euros credit?

15 euros with 30 euros of credit? I don't think so! There are some where you pay £10 (plus £3 p&p) for about €18 worth of calls, loads of them on ebay, but that's a bit late for you. The deals vary slightly, but I certainly haven't heard of one where you get twice in calls than what you have paid for! Let me know if there is, I'll buy a few for April.

I said I'd heard of it, not that it exists. I'm sure that's my optimistic Spanish class talking. Know it alls
Would be good though. I'll ask my teacher where he got his.
I ask about places to go because I'm going with my college and so far the itinerary seems to be "Get really really drunk". Hmm.
Well, whilst that is undeniably the whole point of a week off college for most people my age, I'd quite like to remember the trip. So, any suggestions as to where to definately go?

It's been about 3 years since I've been there but I'll try to see what I remember.
The Catedral, of course. This is where the remains of Christopher Columbus are. Beautiful cathedral and beautiful sarcophagus. Your friends can go to Flaherty's Irish Pub next door to get drunk. Good place for lunch if you don't want Spanish food.;D
Don't know your transportation situation but I enjoyed the Roman ruins in Italica, just outside of town. I've heard that they now have a light rail system but I don't know how extensive it is or if it is operational yet.
I don't know why I never went to the Real Alcazar near the catedral but I've heard it was nice.
I believe there is an outdoor market across the river from where you will be staying. I think they are on Sundays. May not be in winter months.
El Arenal is a very cool Flamenco restaurant/theater. It is not far from your hotel.
Plaza de Espana is gorgeous! It has been featured in some movies including one of the Star Wars. You would think that it is really old but I believe it was only built for the 1929 expo. If the weather is good, a carriage ride is in order.
I'm sure I've dropped the ball on a few things and I'm equally sure someone can pick it up.
If you have a car, I recommend a cliffside town with beautiful views called Ronda. An hour or two away. As well as Ubrique. A valley town that has wonderful leather goods.

Hi, The Alcazar is definitely worth looking at, as is the bullring - you can do a tour which shows you some of the inside of the building including the on site operating theatre, which is kind of interesting!

Thankyou! I will keep that all in mind
Unfortunately, i have no real way of getting around apart from within seville itself, so whilst I'd love to explore a bit more, its not really going to be possible. I think my teacher is organising a trip to the bullring, so that should be interesting. :D thanks for your help. xxx

I did indeed get that offer when I got my first Vodafone SIM back in summer 2002. Haven't seen such a good offer since though.

The places mentioned previously are all worth seeing. Time spent just strolling through the Barrio Santa Cruz with no particular itinerary in mind, is lovely. It´s so atmospheric.
I´d also recommend that you head across the river to the Triana district. Many of the artisans in Seville live here especially flamenco artists. You´ll also find here some of the old ceramic workshops where they make the Andalusian tiles. The tiled patios of many of the homes in this district are true works of art.
About getting around Seville inexpensively, you might like to check out the following company who rent bikes and also offer guided bikes tours
http://www.rentabikesevilla.com/ingles/english/index1.htm This is a nice alternative to the traditional guided visit.
Have a great time.

I went and had fun but we ended up having far more visits than id thought - we took a little visit to cordoba which was nice and had a flamenco evening thing. I didn't get to check out alcazar but i did see the bullring which was interesting as well as being educational (and my spanish teacher made us interpret the tour!). I of course did check out the irish pub, with my irish friend, who was so ecstatic at finding guiness in spain she dragged us back there practically every night :P thanks to everyone xx

For anyone else that may stumble across this in the future....
When I was in Sevilla last year, I found a mobile phone stand right inside the post office across the street from the cathedral, near the internet place. I was able to buy a sim card for somewhere around 20 euros.
(As a side note: I find it mildly amusing that the internet place mentioned above uses the page displayed on their workstations as their web page: http://www.sevilleinternetcenter.com/)
