hi all- well, i've decided to take the double plunge. i joined the forum a few days ago AND for some inexplicable reason mustered up the courage to take ben's advice and try my hand at a video blog :o so if anyone wants to see me stammering away, it's on youtube for the world to see. i'm preparing for an oral spanish exam so my reasoning is... one of the main factors to get over is nerves, right? well, what better way to get over it than put yourself out in the public arena? obviously other motivations are to improve vocabulary and fluency. anyway, thanks to notes in spanish for the inspiration! :thumbs-up: nos vemos...

Great great great, a response is on it's way in seconds! By the way you can post the vids directly in the forum (instructions here (http://www.notesfromspain.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9966&postcount=1)), so here again is yours, and ours is to follow as soon as youtube processes it:

You two make it all seem so easy, but then you are old hands at podcasting so it's only to be expected. Of course, we all want to know what Marina was about to say at the very end. Nothing to do with tocapelotas, I hope. ;D;D

Hi Eric,
Here there are some corrections:
He seguido leyendo mucho las páginas web... - He leído muchas páginas web...
Eldeano,
I used to drive Ben mad because I tended to speak straight away after recording the podcast, which made it more dificult for him to edit the final part. I think Ben found the final bit of the video funny and decided to leave me wondering if I had look at Ben far too much instead of looking at the camera.

Marina/Ben: I loved stumbling upon this sudden unexpected chance to actually watch the two of you together; it's apparent that ultimately it's your fantastic rapport and the way in which you relate together that makes your podcasts so sublime; I don't want to embarass you or make you self conscious...but having the chance to actually WATCH you while you talk together....well..that was a treat. Is it too much to hope for MORE of a VERY GOOD THING?
Deano: "Tocapelotas" - ¿Que quiere decir?
And now I'm going to watch both videos again!:)

Creo que Deano tiene razón..es decir:
Castaña = Chignon:
(a bun or knot into which the hair is twisted)
Castaño = Horsechestnut Tree
It's not a knot/I see a tree ;D

that was a great presentation- are u trying to make us all jealous of your flat? :p man, i'd love to be in barcelona. what a great town, and looks like a great neighborhood as well.
only one issue- it looks like the sound is a bit out of sync. i believe that happens when u upload directly form your camera, which mostly likely records in .mov format. i had that problem and found this handy free software http://labs.divx.com/DrDivX to convert my mov files into divx- smaller and in perfect sync.
anyway, nice work, keep them coming!!! :thumbs-up:

Well, the flat's up for sale at the moment, so if you want it...? jeje
Thanks for the tip about the synching. I wasn't impressed once I saw it, but figured it'd have to do for the moment. I'll experiment more over the weekend when I'm back in England. Might see about making another one that's a bit less rushed. Cheers!

i just wanted to respond to a couple comments.
Nice video, nice idea, good spanish and funny french accent :)
i guess since i'm american i'll take that as a compliment ;) my spanish is now a mix of anglicisms, french-isms and just sheer invention.
docmolly- i think u're right; i plan on moving to boston and becoming a french teacher. the reason i'm making a big effort with my spanish now is as a plan b so that i might be able to teach spanish if i cant find work using french. and there are definitely big communities of spanish speakers in boston that i want to be involved in. i guess i just have been spoiled by learning french in france, where every person in the country can be your teacher, and you deepen your understanding of the language in every context you enter into. lazy man's language course
neskadebilbao- i'm doing my master's here in bordeaux. it's in teaching french as a foreign language. all that remains between me and the diploma is a huge thesis. hence u'll see me on the forums a lot. i'll be procrastinating. jejeje
thanks to all you guys for your encouragement, and cant wait to see some more videos!
MonikaD.
8th March 2007, 11:35 PM
In answer to Eric's video blog, I would like to say that YES, IT IS POSSIBLE to learn a language while living outside the community that speaks it. That's exactly how I've got to know English (or at least I like to tell myself that I know it ;)). The world being a global willage, you have all the tools you need to surround yourself with a language of your choice. As for motivation, that's a tough one. In case of English I simply had to take exams, so I was forced to study. But with Spanish it is really hard to esforzarme continualmente. Maybe somebody knows how uno lo hace?

zonzamas is kind enough to correct some of my posts, -as I often have quite a few mistakes he does it by private message. I do the same for him (which is easier because he has fewer mistakes). We then correct the offending post using edit. This has the benefit of not cluttering up the forum with loads of corrective posts, which some here seemed concerned about. If this is the case I will acknowledge the fact in the reason for editing space.
Although this approach is 'tidier' the downside is that people browsing the post do not get the chance to see the process and learn. Some of my LOST posts had an awful lot of red ink though!

I always like these neighbourhoods in Barcelona where the buildings at each intersection have the corner sliced off to form that diamond-like shape. Hi everyone,
I just joined the forum yesterday after a year+ of enjoying the podcasts. Perfect timing, too, as I've been hoping to get some more video-making practice. I actually work for an online video company (GUBA - sort of like YouTube but we offer premium downloads in addition to free user-generated content) as a community advocate/content editor/blogger and, thanks to Ben, I can embed my company's videos now -- I'd be tarred and feathered if I embedded a YouTube or Revver video, I'm sure. I've made about three or four really basic promo videos for the company blog using iMovie, so I added a little music and some transitions to this video blog (anything to distract from the errors and the decidi, decidi, decidi repetition). Enjoy:
3000040471
(BTW, that was inspired by something I put together really quickly the other day for work: http://www.guba.com/watch/3000040256 - I love that Olympics-inspired music as an intro. to the Silly Putty Jesus.)
(BTW No. 2, if you don't see the video player just refresh the page and it should show up.)

entonces me aprenden cosas - entonces me enseñan cosas.

Pepino está usando una expresión ingles: "It's a bit much".

Would it be possible for you to set up an account in YouTube for the NFS video blogs - such as NFS Forum - and those that want to can upload their video directly to it (or move them over)? This way we can all get to see the videos from the forum in one place. I know there would be a password and stuff but you could release those details by private message to trusted members when requested, and change it periodically if it appears to be being abused. You can also get a direct email address for mobile video footage.
It might not work but is it worth a try?

I await to be shot down http://gprime.net/board/images/smilies/gun2.gifDefinitely a good idea, it works really well with our Notes from Spain Flickr group. However, rather than creating a seperate new account, and as so many of us already have youtube accounts and it is a pain to log in and out with different pwords, and as some of us already have videos uploaded... I thought it might work best to have a youtube group that we can all join independently and add videos too, what do you think? I have set one up at:
http://www.youtube.com/group/notesinspanish
so far I have added our vlogs and one I received by email you should have a look at too.
Please youtubers, Eric, Dm, Peino et al, do join the group and add your vids to the group! Aplogied to non-youtubers, we can always start a guba group too, and please do all keep putting your vids in the forum as well as in the group, so we can also discuss them here! Eldeano, what do you think? If you approve of the 'group' concept, I'll announce it on the NiS blog!

Afraid I have to disappoint, DM. Was all set for a shearing last Friday, but had to cancel as I had a sudden job interview, and been busy in England until today. Will get down there later this week though and give you a look when done! :smug: Won't be a dramatic change I don't think, but given that I can pull my fringe down past my chin, I think some fairly severe action is called for! jeje
Can't wait for the outside broadcast, and I hope we can persuade Pepino to come down from his balcony too.
Been making some practice vids in English (for speed) just to practice, as my voice synch is still all over the place. Still having problems and getting a bit miffed really as I want to do some more blogs in Spanish. Will get it nailed asap, and if not you'll just have to put up with me speaking a bit disjointed (I suppose you could just pretend that I've been "dubbed" into Spanish! jeje)

A Californian who grew up 20 miles outside of Puerto Rican- and Domincan-heavy Manhattan and about 15 miles from Union City, N.J., home to one of the largest populations of Cuban Americans in the country. Explains why I'm so confused when it comes to accent.
(Another part of that problem: In college I never had more than one professor from the same country. My first was a Korean raised in Argentina, second from PR, third from Spain, fourth from Paraguay, fifth from Venezuela, sixth from Chile and seventh from Colombia.)

Nothing under the hood at all, as it's storage space. The engine is a little pocket rocket of just 698cc squeezed in around the back under another small storage space. It's a future classic, especially given that they've stopped making them now. I've had it for over 2 years and it still turns heads every day. I used to love days out with my dog in the passenger seat and the roof off (he likes to feel the wind in his whiskers! jeje)

1. No, just the normal sort.
2. It's like lemonade
3. It was a comida, not a cena!!

:thumbs-up: Tus alrededores parencen muy tranquilos.

Okay, I did this one on the fly. I mistakenly called hammers martillas instead of martillos. LOL!
The next one I'll try to show more of where I live - the creek, road, etc while describing everything flawlessly in Spanish. ;D

Jaja...
Tengo una pregunta. ¿Cómo diría putting down a new floor? Me pregunto si instalar sería mejor.
Gracias,

Since a couple of days, I've got problems playing the Youtube videos - they stop every few seconds and the ones on this thread stop playing altogether. What could be the problem?

Oh buen trabajo Karen.

What could be the problem?I think there is a bandwidth problem somewhere. I played Ben's great "De boda" video direct from YouTube sin problema. Tried some more and getting the same problem direct from YouTube
I've noticed the forum is also slow to complete loading a page as well. Guess it's too successful for the hosting site:mad:

¡Excelente!

Ahhh, I guess the secret's out. I'm not really Australian and not really half way around the world (and not really typing at 4.51 am when I should be sleeping!) ;)

That proves it. Roberto, as you know, speaks great English on Sky's Spanish football coverage. And we only have your word for it that you're in the big prison exercise yard that is Australia. ;D ;D
