This might be a new one for some of you. Soler means 'to be in the habit of'. It can come in really handy. I found this explanation somewhere.
"Also worth mentioning here is the verb soler, which is used with the infinitive to express the idea of "usually," as in suele comer un taco for "he usually eats a taco." Because it refers to habitual events, soler is used in the imperfect tense but never the preterite. Example: Solía leer mucho. (He used to read a lot.)"
