View Full Version : To live in Sevilla, or nearby...

My partner's work will be located 20km north of Sevilla. After some research I have found that the towns of Gerena, Guillena and La Algaba are 4, 5, and 10km away from his work respectively.

My question is: should we live in a smaller town with presumably cheaper rent, less travel to work, better parking and a quieter lifestyle or live in Sevilla itself? The cost is not really an issue, its more the convenience and lifestyle.

While we want to sight see and travel etc. whilst in Spain, do people think the actual day to day living would be better in a smaller town? And public transport - is it possible to catch buses or taxi's to outlying towns?

I must say it is VERY nice to have this as the greatest issue in my life right now!!

Any advice - especially from anybody who knows these towns - would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'd say if the money is not the driving factor then it is purely down to personal choice. Personally I hate big cities so always try and live in a smaller community. Other people would be bored out of their skulls living where I do. If you like to party, eat out regularly and have opera/theatre/etc on your doorstep then its fairly easy to choose.
A good compromise is to find a rural area with good public transport, but trains etc tend to stop at quite an early hour so getting home from the disco at 3AM (if that's your scene) might cause you problems. Maybe that's why they stay open until 7 jeje!
If you are renting then it's fairly easy to change so you could try both :)

Whatever you decide, enjoy it!

For me, much as I like Sevilla, unless I had guaranteed parking, it would be the rural area for me. The parking alone, or lack of it, would put me off! Plus, given that he will be working 20k outside of Sevilla, I think one of the rural places might suit you better. You can still travel into Sevilla for your night's out.

Thanks for that guys.

As i will be studying at home, and we would like somewhere easy/relaxing i think i will be going with one of the smaller towns. But everything i have read today seems to suggest internet connection in the small towns may be a problem! I suppose that will just give me an excuse to travel into Seville for the day and find an internet cafe ;D .

If you have your own flat and a telephone line then you will have no trouble getting a high-speed internet connection for as little as 20 euros a month.
