Madrid Neighborhoods?

Hi all,

I'll be moving to Madrid at the end of August and am a little intimidated about finding a place to live. I'm gonna attempt to set it up via the internet before I get there, and have found plenty of people with rooms to rent out, but I'd like to get an idea of any areas to avoid...?? If there are any areas of the city that are generally known to be unsafe, I'd love to know what to look out for.
