That time has come again. Yes, it's time for my Spanish fix. I haven't been to Spain in 8 months and it's driving me mad. So, I have some time off in August and I'm going to get away (I want to get away, YEAH!).

Now, I am still SKINT,
so I can't spend a mint,
I want to leave from Scotland,
but not arrive in any land.
If you're like me
you cast your eyes on
the horizon
Spain is where I want to be.

Sorry about that. Madrid is the target this time. Any ideas?

Don't give up your day job for a career in poetry. :)

The gang and I would a) never come across a girl like Paula, and b) never be able to dance like that (I blame Messrs Hanna & Barbera).

But what is skint to a Scotsman may be luxury to someone else. As Billy Connolly said,"Copper wire was invented when two Scotsmen were arguing over a penny!"

Only joking, buen viaje.

If you can afford it, I would suggest doing a Segway tour of Madrid. Madsegs.com runs segways tours of the center. It was probably the most amazing part of my trip to Madrid. It lasts 3 hours and it includes a drink and a snack at a cafe, and a cd of pictures of the tour. It's run by a Scottish guy named Anthony(so it's in English) but he has been running this tour for two years, so he knows a lot about the city. The price was a little steep, 60 euros, but for me it was worth every cent. Check out their website, and buena suerte.

In many reception areas of hotels and hostals you will find a rack of small credit card sized cards advertising bars, restaurants, language schools etc. I often pick up a few at random as they make good bookmarks!
Which is how I am looking at the one that advertises Mad Segs. On the bottom of the card is a simple line guaranteed to warm the heart of any Scotman, and a few sassenachs too. It says, "10 Euro Discount".
It looks fun and I have been meaning to give it a go for a while. Maybe this time! (Just a week to go).

You definitely should give it a try. Anthony is a really good guide. And the segways are super fun. I waited until I had only a week left in Madrid to do it, and I'm sorry I did, because I really wanted to go again (the second time is only half price)! But I just didn't have time to do it again. My only complaint is it made me want to buy a segway, which unfortunately I can't, too expensive:(.

I did a Segway tour last summer in Sevilla. It was hysterical --I almost crashed twice, trying to take the Seg "off road" ;D -- but a lot of fun. The guide was super majo. Also, the price in Sevilla was almost half the price of the Madrid one. :thumbs-up:

The Segway crops up in unexpected places. When I arrived at Attocha after my visit to Seville I saw a RENFE employee whiizzing about the station on one. I expect the postmen and women will get them next!

How long do they last before they need recharged, and what mileage can you get? How fast do they go? Could I use one to go to work? :) (about 20 miles)

With the newer lithium batteries, they can go up to 24 miles at 12.5 miles/hour (20 km/hr, I think). I think it takes about 8 hours to charge. 20 miles would probably be a little too far and time consuming to be worth it. But if you don't have too far to travel for work, then it can be of use.
