No idea about the Sopranos. I'm not the person to ask though, I haven't turned on Spanish TV for so long - I just can't cope with the 20 minute advert breaks.... we just end up watching a lot of series on DVD, Lost etc... original version and no ads!

Well the Sopranos are also available on DVD for your region: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/external-search/203-0912207-4139131?mode=blended&keyword=Sopranos. If you like the Godfather(s) you might like the Sopranos. Though it is a tv series, it is a high quality production series which has garnished more awards than most tv shows. Talk about a study of a different vernacular, maron!

It seems like so much of that stuff on public tv, when translated, loses its power of influence.

I'm suggesting watching the Sopranos in english. I don't know how much of its' quality can be maintained if translated.

There are a LOT of quality US series available on DVD now: I don't bother with cable, so I end up renting many of the HBO & Showtime series from Netflix.

Right now I'm catching up on Season 2 of "Deadwood". I still need to rent the final season of "Six Feet Under" and this past season of "The Sopranos".

One of the UK series I caught recently on PBS, was 2004's reality show:
"The Spy" -- I only saw the last two episodes, so am looking forward to catching the entire show in re-broadcast.

I also just rented the animated short (UK TV series): "Creature Comforts". Which wasn't nearly as entertaining as Wallace & Grommet - but fine for what it was.

Watching Television wasn't exactly a big priority when we were in Spain -- but I have to say, European Television has certainly improoved over what I remember watching while visiting London and Geneva in the early '80's!
Though honestly, I can't remember seeing any original Spanish programming other than news : it was mostly German game shows and American movies...

Speaking of UK Television: Anybody remember the show with the woman dog trainer who gleefully sang "walkies!" to every pooch she happened upon? What was her name?

That's her! As I recall she was quite the super-star, at the time. T-shirts and buttons with various dogs and the "Walkies!" tag on them everywhere -- :D
