It's Anna, 34 y.o, from Barcelona (Spain), currently living in London improving my weak English, so I need help!! Of course I can offer you help with your Spanish or Catalan. We can meet each other in London. Is there some one here? Where are you? :-)

Hi, I am in London and would like to improve my Spanish if you still live here. I have studied Spanish only 6 weeks but my level is intermediate. I read books/newspapers and watch movies in Spanish but don't get the chance to have conversations too often here.

yo no vivo en londres, pero yo necesito ayuda en la idioma de espanol.
I have been learning spanish for around 9 months, but i am loving it, i listen to Ben and Maria all day long! i love it.
This is my first time on the forum therefore i will not chance my arm just yet with writing in spanish, i guess i don't want to be making lots of mistakes.
I am only working on the present tenses at the moment. Any tips for learning anything spanish related would be gratefully received. I don't get any opportunities to practice the language. Just lots of verb tables and of course the fabulous Ben and Maria.
Any ideas for learning verb tenses??

Chance your arm. Make lots of mistakes. That's how you'll learn.

As for verb tenses, I bought a verb book and learned the tense endings for regular
-ar, -er and -ir verbs. Then I started on irregular verbs.

Good luck.

Hola Ash

I to brought a verb book "501 Spanish Verbs" which I find very useful. I to am working my way through the regular verbs and have touched on the irregular ones which I think are hard.

I have only recently joined but intend to do some of the deberes (homework I hope thats how it is spelt) for practise. Folk here are very helpful and will help with corrections.

I have just got the "501 Spanish Verbs" and it is very useful, but I am only just starting out trying to sentence build. Not finding it very easy. I have learned lots of the basic words for items and some verbs, it's just a case of linking it all up for a conversation!!

I to have this problem as I am not very confident. I have three books that I am currently working through at the moment in addition to my weekly class. They are part of the "Practice Makes Perfect" range

Spanish Verb Tenses
Spanish Pronouns and Prepositions
Complete Spanish Grammar

Not expensive to buy and the exercises are really good. Buy online and the price is cheaper.

Hi Anna,

I am on the other side del Charco in Seattle, When I saw this thread I thought maybe I can learn a little Catalan from you. I would love to visit Spain and I am planning a trip.
My first question to you is:

Are both languages Catalan and Spanish similar in anyway? or do they have their own roots.

I like languages and I also speak Spanish-Catellano which leads me to the next questinon "Is there such a thing as Spanish language or is it Castellano the language"

Castellano is the "normal" Spanish language. It's spoken in most parts of Spain and South America. Catalan is actually similar but sounds a little bit different. It's spoken in Cataluņa which is a region in the north-east of Spain.
