When I came through Madrid airport the other day there was a demonstration going on in the terminal. About 100 or so protestors had gathered by the security gates and they were making the most awful din, screaming, shouting, blowing whistles and sounding air-horns etc. It seems that they were workers from Aldeasa who I think run the duty free shops in the airport (please correct me if I'm wrong) and they wanted more money. The police turned up and stood at a distance watching what was going on, but apart from the awful racket it was all good-natured.
At one point, the crowd went quiet and a woman started shouting something through her loud haler. And with that, the crowd started to sing, "cumpleaņos feliz, cumpleaņos feliz, te deseamos..."
It was hardly the miner's strike (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_miners%27_strike_%281984-1985%29) but isn't it nice that despite their suffering they had time to remember someone's birthday.
