When the preterite is past it and the subjunctive affects the subconcious, take time out with this:

QUICK RULES:

The penguin will honk when he is ready at the top of
the hill.

Click once to make the penguin jump down the hill,
then CLICK

AGAIN in time to make the Yeti swing the bat to hit
the penguin across the ice.

Click the OK to reset for another try.

WARNING: This is addictive....

I had five or six goes then backed off - I have lost vast tracts of time in the past - you sit down at 9.30 to have 10 minutes and the next thing you know its getting light and the birds are singing!!

Have just done 307.7 - trick seems to be to click when the penguins beak reaches the lower of the two grey spots on the rock - damn i said I wouldnt do this.....

We were addicted to this at uni a few years ago. There are loads of versions around, including an extra gory one, and one with mines along the way. A good way to waste an afternoon.
