Madrid was really great, thanks Brian. We didn't meet Marina and Ben this time but many of the sentiments they have expressed in their podcasts and elsewhere on Notes from Spain influenced the photos taken on this trip. More pics to come...

Can't wait to see more pics Marbella, and I don't think we can take too much credit for influencing them... good photos are about having a good eye for finding them! Your photos and others in the Flickr group have really inspired me to start taking more photos again; the trouble is that I have been here for so long that a lot of the fascinating everyday stuff, like your wonderful store fronts, doesn't jump out at me so much any more. Still, I'm thinking of getting an ultra-compact camera to carry around everywhere from now on, so that at least when I do see something worth recording I won't have any excuses!

P.s. I hope you'll consider adding some of your pics to the Notes from Spain Flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/notesfromspain/pool/)!

You did, I guess the difference for me is that until now I thought I was the only person on the planet who enjoyed the scenes of everyday Spanish life. I might have taken these photos before but kept quiet about them!

I guess that does happen with familiarity (lucky you in a way!). Please do take some photos as you are wandering about.

I did notice sometimes on this trip that Riojana stood away from me like we weren't together. But, now she has seen the photos, particulary the 'Alimentacion' one, she can see what I was trying to portray. I haven't got a clue what I am doing with the camera, never adjusted it or read the manual and don't you think I was lucky with the couple walking past the door of the shop? It makes the photo don't you think?

P.s. I hope you'll consider adding some of your pics to the Notes from Spain Flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/notesfromspain/pool/)!

Yes, thanks for the reminder, I'll do that very soon.

I started last night (http://flickr.com/photos/spanishben/sets/72157594168227140/show/) - inspired by your pics! This one was taken in a street in La Latina, Marina says it could easily have been taken 50 years ago, much like yours.

Definitely. Sometimes it's even worth deliberately waiting for someone interesting to come along once you find a nice shot, like with this guy I waited for here:

It's part of what made Cartier Bresson so famous - he would find an amazing composition, then lurk insconspicuously until the right person wandered into shot, just look at these wonderful examples:

Very nice pictures Marbella!!!

I could not believe when I saw the third one, that same Carniceria (Butcher) and Pescaderia (Fishmonger) is where my mother gets her meat and fish!!!

A little peer pressure is good! ;) I know it helps me to motivate myself to get out and look for some good shots. What Ben said is true: it's easy to become too familiar with a place, and not see what other people do when they see it for the first time. The good thing about living in a tourist destination is that you do get the chance to see things through other people's eyes when they come to visit.

All of the photos above are great...they have a real sense of atmosphere and everyday life. Keep them coming!

What a wonderful coincidence, Marina!

Ben, what a great shot of the abuelita with her nieta. Nice work!

Hi,

I've added those that I'd posted on the forum so far.
Please would you let me know if I've done this correctly (not sure if I have to create a group within the Notes from Spain group?).

If all is well I have some others to add. I've only uploaded a few photos and already I'm being prompted to upgrade my Flickr account in order to add more.

Guess this is what others in the group have to do?

Thanks,

Ben

Hi,Your photos seem to have appeared fine in the NFS group, I don't think you need to any other group within a group or anything like that. The request for the upgrade to Flickr Pro might be due to your monthly upload limit in general, unless there is a limit of how many you can add to a group per month as well... I upgraded my account again recently to be able to have more 'sets' on my own Flickr page.... They are clever like that!

Ok, I've upgraded and I can do some more uploads now.

I think I should have said set instead of group. I've put for example the tiendas de barrio pics in a set of the same name on my Flickr page and then I've added that set to the Notes from Spain group. I noticed that in the NFS Flickr group my photos in this set display individually, but yours just show the first one of the set.

Hope this makes sense.

Ah, OK. I have never tried adding a whole set to the group, just a couple of individual ones via the page for the individual photo itself.

I have to post this one here too. From the Plaza Colon during the Spain - Tunisia game.

OK, I've finally posted the rest of the photos to the NFS Flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/notesfromspain/pool/). Excuse the building shots, I just like the Madrid architecture although you will all have seen these thousands of times before. Some others might take your interest though.

I'll highlight a couple here, apologies if this thread takes ages to load now, won't do it again promise...
