Lo siento por me mal espanol, asi que hablare en ingles... (sorry for my bad spanish, so i will speak in english? - i think that's how u'd say it??)

My situation:

I'm HIGHLY considering moving to Madrid even though I've never been there before. I've been to Barcelona and seemed to get around just fine without having to speak much Spanish (however I was only there a day). I was in Ibiza for 2 months and also spoke mostly english.

I really just want to know what I'd expect to pay for a semi-nice place in a decent part of town (close to things like metro stations so I can get from one place to another without having many problems). To be more specific, a 2BR / 1.5 bath w/ equipped kitchen / washer & dryer.

I also am quite curious about how hard it'd be for someone who speaks little Spanish to just get up and move to a city like Madrid. I know that obtaining a visa isn't exactly the easiest thing to do, especially if you're not already employed by someone over there... but nothing is impossible.

Very anxious to see what your responses will be...

Gracias amigos!

A lot :)

i expect it to be a lot, but how much is "a lot"... 1500-2000 euro??

if it's only 1500 i can live w/ that... as long as i'm close to a metro station that can get me around town, that's fine with me

I'm sure you will get what you need for 1500, even less, depending on how far from the very center you need to be. As for just turning up with no visa etc, I know several Americans who have done that and are now having the time of their lives. Yes, it is much harder than for us Europeans, but there certainly are ways around it... there is always English teaching for one... you could send a PM to forum member Realaficionada21 (http://www.notesfromspain.com/forums/member.php?u=1550) who has just found a job here having turned up from the states with no visa...

Sorry I can't be more specific on house prices. You could try having a look around loquo.com to see if you can get a better idea, though they may only advertise shared accommodation in there.

And don't forget to keep an eye on www.notesfrommadrid.com for nice things to do once you get here!
