Hello all ! I am about to move into my own flat here in Madrid, and there isn't internet at the moment. Can anyone recommend one of the internet providers. I was thinking about Orange but I have no idea, to tell the truth.
Thanks in advance for any advise !!!

Anybody but Telefónica, if you want it installed in the next decade.

It depends where you are. In Madrid you can have anybody. All the companies have periodic offers, particularly on the phone, TV and Internet packages, so it's just a case of shopping around.
Living in the middle of nowhere we found that nobody but Telefonica could supply us (Ya.com looked to offer a good package and they told us they could connect us up, repeatedly, until after two months wait they changed their mind and told us they couldn't). Telefonica took 3 days to get us online.
ONO took just under a week to put a new line and ADSL connection into my partner's flat in Ciudad Rodrigo in Salamanca.

even within a town - here we have two sets of exchange numbers, one you can get ADSL, the other you can't. I use an Orange package for phone calls & ADSL, so far without problems, but the line is supplied and billed by Telefonica.
If you cannot get a Telefonica line there are other companies who are slowly building up alternative services via radio links. Their areas are quite limited, at least along the costas but many of the urbanisations are not cabled for phone services so you'd be left with little choice. Can't see you having that problem in Madrid :) but I've mentioned it for other people who may not be so lucky.

Can I just second that! Mention them to anyone in Spain and eyes will
roll to ceiling and a tale of woe will ensue.
Sad thing is, they seem pretty good on the technical side but their customer relations are dreadful.
We use Wanadoo - now Orange I think . Haven't had any problems so
far, but maybe we were just lucky.

One good thing about Telefonica is that they will give you an English speaker if they can. I haven't managed that with any of the other help lines so have had to stumble slowly through with my Spanish.

Information on Internet services in Spain, You living in Spain. Free Internet via dialup, ADSL and Cable modem services through various providers like Telefonica, Auna, ONO, ya.com and Wanadoo.
Spain’s Internet usage has climbed drastically in recent years. As of January 2007, Spain had over 19,204,000 Internet users, almost 43% of the population . As for broadband (cable and ADSL Internet), this is still somewhat lower than the overall EU market average penetration (50.9%) and the price to performance ratio is lower too, making the Internet relatively expensive in these terms. Of course this is most likely due to the near monopoly Telefonica still maintains over Spain’s telephone lines, making it difficult for competitors to enter the market and difficult for you to even get your ADSL line at all, since you’ll have to rely on them to install a fixed telephone line service before your ADSL will work. This is changing however, but more on that later.
Further information about wireless (wifi) Internet in Spain.
They have no interest in widening their operating range beyond the current 3.5km from an exchange, and they don’t allow other companies to use more modern RADSL equipment to extend their range to 6-7 km. Telefonica aren’t incompetent; they are allowed to cherry pick customers who are cheapest to service.

We live in the countryside and once had Wanadoo supply internet for us, via a phone connection. All was fine until we asked for ADSL. Then came a lot of problems. To cut a long story short and with the help of our solicitor we dumped Wanadoo with immediate notice. Now with Telefonica as they own the lines we cut out the middle man.
