In brief -NO! :D
The only time I liked the bagpipes in Scotland were when there was a lone piper on a castle wall playing a lament. They really sound like they were made for that type of music. Give me a good fiddle (violin) anytime.

I think a lone piper is as it should be ...... very alone! ;)

As we live in Galicia we cannot escape the Gaitas. Here is a link to our Youtube videos.Ya18u36ZMKU

Going through our collection of music you should add to your list the following groups/singers:

Alan Stivell
Bagad De Lann-Bihoné
Bagad Kemper
Briganthya
Dan Ar Braz
Milladoiro
Slainté
Susana Seivane
Wolfstone
Xose Foxo

Not all from Galicia but all have the same vibe.
Hevia plays an electric gaita!

You put the youtube code (the bit after the = sign between the code your code[/youtube (both are between sq brackets I've missed the last bracket off)
for your first that would be your code Ya18u36ZMKU

which gives [youtube]Ya18u36ZMKU

looks like someone's done it for you, which has removed the code -and buggered up my explanation a bit

The bits I heard sounded more flutelike than the Scottish version -which sounds like somebody trampling on a bagful of cats.

somebody trampling on a bagful of cats.

Who would want to do a thing like that?

On the subject of Spanish Bagpipe players (on-topic) I think that Carlos Nuñéz is a young man that should face up to the reality of his hairline.:p

Hey, lets take it easy on Pipers. We have it a bit harder than you guys. We have to listen to it. We don't have the option of leaving.

I saw your profile picture colin, what sort of pipes are they? (don't say bag) I wouldn't have thought there was a big bagpipe movement in West Virginia:p

I play the Great Highland Bagpipe, as seen below. Apologies, my poor camera doesn't take loud reverberating sound so well.

Thanks for that Colin. Now if Tad and yourself can get together with the video camera the possibilities are endless ;)

Slightly off topic but my biggest headache every was the day after I volunteered to work the gate of the Philadelphia Scottish Society gathering. The gate was next to the bagpipe tuning tent. For some reason someone thought that a couple of mm of canvas would stop the sound.

And I think Milladoiro are great!

Chao,

Robin

Tuning the pipes is a pain known only to a few.

Give me a good fiddle (violin) anytime.

My favorite folk instruments are the guitar, the fiddle and the harmonica/bandoneon.
