Huge kudos is the prize at stake for anyone that can answer all the following questions correctly.
1. Where is this bar? Clue: it is located in a central Madrid Plaza that has only just re-opened after a complete refurbishment designed to drive the drunks away from the Plaza. Flower stalls are soon to appear in the open pedestrian spaces.

2. What is a Chamarileria?

3. Which two teams are playing in this world cup match caught through a bar window?

4. What is the name of this Plaza, and from which well known La Latina bar roof terrace is the photo taken?

a long shot, but is the bar in picture 1 in Plaza de Jacinto Benavente just down from Plaza de Santa Ana (which I remember because it is full of great bars...)?

1. Not a clue.
2. A chamarileria is a second-hand shop/dealer
3. Argentina Mexico
4. In the background is the basillica San Francisco el Grande which makes the plaza possibly Puerta de Moros. Just wouldn't know what the terraza is though - the only one we know is El Viajero which I don't think is quite in the same place.
Good quiz by the way, great fun and a real challenge.

Guapo - no, sorry, but it's not at all far from there!
Marbella - 4. - Puerta de Moros is the one in the middle of the photo, yes, well done, but there is in fact another name for the plaza right in front of the bar where it was taken!
2. - Correct!
So, we are still looking for the name of the Plaza in photo 1, and the name of the bar and the other plaza in photo 2!

P.S. there is an even better pic of the same chamarileria (http://www.flickr.com/photos/59172487@N00/168231616/) on flickr!

Given that the tag on the flikr is "Lavapies," I would venture that it's in that same plaza.

4. Plaza de la Cebada, and I'll go again for El Viajero.

Wonder if this could be the same scrap metal shop:
from: http://www.faustopototo.com/english/bio.htm
Bio: Fausto Pototo (Javier Teruel)
Born and raised in the Lavapies neighborhood of Madrid, Spain, Fausto Pototo began singing with his family when he was very young and in public in his teens - pop, rock, tango, experimental - and eventually back to traditional flamenco.
A lover of flamenco, in his free time his grandfather frequented a chamarileria (a scrap metal stop) that was also a peña de flamenco (a place where flamenco musicians would gather to play together).

Is the plaza in #1 Tirso de Molina?

And yes, Brian, the scrap metal shop was in Lavapies. Muy bien :)

YES! Well that's is then, Kudos to be spread all round I think!

All the pics came from a stroll round the center of Madrid last night. Walking from Calle Atocha to La Latina via Lavapies on a baking summer's evening (with a few cañas on the way) is one of the nicest experiences in the world!

That's all up hill. No wonder you stopped for cañas.http://qsmile.com/qsimages/92.gif But as for hot, well, Saudi reached an unofficial 56 degrees today. Unofficial as the law says work can stop if it's 50 or more. Saudi TV always says "Today's top temperature was 49 degrees". They're lying.

That is seriously hot! We have only been up to about 35 in Madrid so far, and that is bad enough!

It allows me to be seriously smug when everyone I meet in Madrid complains about the summer heat. "It's quite cool actually", I say condescendingly.

I now have a little Ixus, so it lives in my pocket. You may all be sick of pix of Madrid before too long!

I bet when most of you read about the teperature here you thought of hot, burning sun. I bet you didn't think of hot, burning door handles, mechanic's tools and, er, lavatory seats!!!! (Facilities are clean, but basic.) The common phrase is 50+ in the shade, except there ain't no shade!! Last year I put a probe in the sand and measured 67 degrees. No barefoot walk on the beach here.

Shame I didn't read this yesterday. I was chatting to somebody from Barcelona whose wife comes from Seville. I was complaining about the heat (it was a mere 35C which is hot for a poor Brit) when he mentioned it can sometimes reach 50C in Seville - of course he didn't mention it was in 1881!!

Just to be nerdy I will now point out that overnight I have swapped Saudi Arabia for the English midlands where it is 30 degrees and I'm dying. It's the hudity, stupid! (I tell myself.)
