Hi Celia,
Is there anything in particular that you want to buy?
I would recommend to check both leather shoes and bags. They tend to be much cheaper than in England and I think the shoes are better quality over here.
Other intersting thing to buy here are prescription glasses, Ben's parents always get them in Sol much cheaper than in England. They are ready in 24 hours and you also get an insurance in a chain shop back in England.
For clothes I can recommend you a few shops: like Massimo Dutti, it's a bit like zara but better quality and a bit more expensive, Adolfo Dominguez, Hoss... but it really depens what kind of clothes you want to buy: casual, for going out etc.

Thanks Marina.I like a slightly Bohemian style of clothing (ie long flowing skirts, pretty tops,jeans,t-shirts,ethnic jewellery etc).I am a bit too old for high fashion!

Then head off to Chueca or shops in Calle Fuencarral, I think you'd like the shops in the area. Also around Chueca you have lots of "muestrarios" which are shoe shops that sell to other shops so they have cheaper prices.
Enjoy your shopping, and let us know what you find more interesting to buy!!!

Is the shoe and clothing shopping so incredible in Spain, I could use it in order to convince my wife that we should take a trip over there in 2 years? Her favorite part of our trip to Paris last year was the shoe and scarf shopping, aside from the wine.;)

I see that you wife is not very motivated to come to Spain. Maybe with a little bit of shopping ideas and a wine trip and you could convince her. :D:D:D
The shoe shopping in Spain is one of the bests in the world, specially around Valencia:rolleyes: and Majorca, thats where all the manofacturers are.
You could also take her to La Guardia in La Rioja Alta, lovely medival town with great food and of course great wine out of unlabeled bottles. But la Rioja is not the only place to visit if you like wine. Ask our expert friend "catavino" for advice.

My wife is motivated about visiting Spain as she likes to travel. This is a little game her and I do. She was resisting going to Paris last year and it took me until the last minute to convince her to come with me. She had a blast! BTW: I went to Paris last year on business which is why I would've gone without her. When we go to Spain (probably in 2 years) she will pretend not to want to go and then she will cave in at the last minute and when I have told her what you have told me here.;)
Gracias y recuerdos

I was in calle Fuencarral in Madrid on Saturday with a couple of friends and that is definetely the trendy place to buy clothes at the moment. For posher shops head off to Serrano near Colon square or in Jose Ortega y Gasset.
