We're busy brainstorming ideas for future podcasts - trips, towns, fiestas, advice, life in Spain - so that apart from the impromtu experiences and travels that we'll record as we go along, we'll also have plenty of great back-up ideas to keep the episodes flowing regularly. So what would you like to hear about? Where do you want us to podcast from?

All ideas will be put onto the brainstorm chart and almost certainly used sooner or later - we intend to carry on with this for a long time to come! Ideas, requests below please! -Ben

Las Fallas de Valencia please!
I never thought watching fireworks and listening to explosions could be so exciting, so emotional even.
I don't know if you could capture the sound of the daily mascleta (excuse my bad spelling), but even a sound-description of the scene when an individual falla gets burnt would be great.
The only downside might be the music repeated over and over and over....
"Valenciaaaaa da dee da dee da dee da dee da dee da dee da dee dum dummmmm"
I realise I may have to wait a while for this, unless anyone already has a recording from this year or previous years.

Next year definitely, we wanted to go this year but were held back by the rain which was really frustrating. Next year I promise! Fallas is absolutely my favourite fiesta en Spain.

How about something on Spanish music? The episode on flamenco was really nice. It'd be nice to hear what's popular from Spanish artists on the radio (not necessarily because it's good music, but for what it will teach us about Spain today). I remember La Oreja de VanGogh being popular when I was there. Regional twists would be good too; for example, the bertsolariak from the Basque Country would be a good topic. Gracias / mila esker!

I don't think this forum is prominent enough on the main page. It's quite difficult to find unless you know where you're going.

Just my opinion :)

Thanks! You're right, I'll sort that out.

Any more podcast requests?

Allan,

don't enter the forum via the blog page. Just store it in your favourites under a heading like "Forums". Then you can click on without waiting for the blog to load.

Ben,

Something I thought of in the shower this morning (don't ask me why): I was thinking you might do a podcast about how the conversion to the Euro has changed/affected Spanish economics and society.

I was living there when the switch to the Euro became mandatory (Spring 2002), and everyone generally seemed annoyed. Even still I hear people quoting prices or amounts in pesetas (I think Marina did in a recent podcast, actually). People complained that prices increased in general. What would you say is the general attitude towards the currency switch now that it's been official for 4 years?

I don't know if this would be enough material for an entire podcast, but it was something that interested me.

Vaya NFS!

I'll stick it on the list too, definitely. It drives me a bit mad that the Spanish, including my wife, all still talk in pesetas for big things like houses...It's been 4 years already!!!

I think an episode on favorite Spanish pasttimes / hobbies would be interesting. I'd never heard of Padel until your blog entry, maybe there are others?

Me being a sport FREAK, anything connected to sports, primarily with a combat orientation i.e. Boxing, Judo, Fencing - would be good as there is a long history of classic fencing in Spain, ?verdad?

Bullfighting, it would be cool to hear one. One day I stumbled onto a page about bullfighting on the web, and I found out that usually the bulles dies, I had no idea, becuase in American Cartoons and such the matador(which I didn't know meant killer) would just wave his red cape.

Bullfighting is harsh  (sorry just my personal opinion - some people think me beating another man senseless with gloves on is barbaric !)

However, would be interesting to know the rational and history behind some of practices and famous Spanish Matadors?

It would be great to be able to have a podcast about Los San Fermines in Pamplona. I think the background sound would have a superb effect on your commentary and to actually be there at the time and give the listener some sort of insight into what was actually happening would be fantastic. One day I WILL go there and see for myself.

Ah yes, a bullfighting 'cast will have to be done sooner or later... though I swore I'd never go again after the last one - it's pretty gruesome stuff...

Welcome to the forums by the way!

This is the same Neil (http://www.notesfromspain.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1757&postcount=8) requesting content that thought the site was selling out to commercialism by charging 93p for a transcript and was never going to listen again...

I have cancelled my subscription (to podcasts) as i find the commercialisation of your web site

Got a bit of a nerve there Neil (http://www.notesfromspain.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1757&postcount=8).....

You have to do Las Fallas, of course. So many of your contributors list Valencia as a favourite place! Maybe you could do a podcast in the Barrio del Carmen in Valencia, or along Calle Caballeros on a Saturday night (including Radio City)?

La Tomatina? What about a trip through the Roman ruins in Merida? Jamon - types, tastes. Queso - as per jamon. Jativa, Quenca, Salamanca, Avilla, Segovia. Cooking paella. Eating paella in Valencia. Soria and the whole celtic-iberian stuff. Granada - so many topics! I could go on forever ....

How about a podcast from the Monastery at Montserrat?
I was hoping to go there last year but we didn't have enough time.
A recording of the Montserrat boys choir, ( the oldest in Europe) would be incredibly moving.

funny you should say that. Every time I am in Barcelona I have the intention to make the trip out to Montserrat. The problem is that I never manage to drag myself away from the attractions of the city. So would love to hear what I am missing....

In a similar vein and perhaps closer to home (at least for Ben and Marina) a place that I have never managed to visit in Madrid is the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales (http://www.patrimonionacional.es/descreal/descreal.htm). Never been able to figure out the opening times. According to my guide book all tours are in Spanish only, so should be a good learning experience!

Really, really worth visiting, even if, like me, you often feel lazy about visiting museumy/monastery type places.

I agree with Caleb. I would do a podcast about País Vasco. You could talk to the people there about many misconceptions, about their culture, euskara, traditional music and celebrations, etc. I personally had one of the worst cases of culture shock when I arrived there and would love for others to learn something about the "nacionalismo" in Spain. Maybe even Cataluyna could be another chapter.

As soon as we get back to the Pais Vasco we'll do that podcast, same goes for Catalunya, (where we will be next weekend!!)
