Don`t take this the wrong way but.

How is a person who can`t cook, speak the language going to survive in a country full of Spanish speaking people all looking for work who can cook and have qualifications to prove it.

Before leaving your country, you need to

A)Get some basic qualifications at least.

B)Learn English (I`m not having a dig, but your writting isn`t great, and to learn any language you need to understand the basics of your own first).

C)Learn Spanish fluently.

D)Travel to Spain and learn the culture.

E)Learn Spanish cooking methods and skills.

Imagine yourself as a boss and a Chinese person walks into your business and can only say Hello, has no formal qualifications, got sacked from Burger King because he/she didn`t understand the concept of Burgers.

Would you employ him/her.

I doubt it.

Spanish view non Speaking Spanish immigrants at best STUPID for coming to there country, thinking its that easy.

Spain is a 21st Centuary modern European Country, they don`t really feel there desperate enough to snap up immigrant workers that can`t grasp the concept of learning the language before arriving.

And Jefe Migel will always pick Juan Antonio over John Smith.

If you're really serious about living and working in Spain, you're going to have to learn the language. Problem being, it's going to take you longer than you perhaps realise.
One start maybe would be to save up enough money for a 3 or 4 months stay in Madrid. Although the residence won't be so cheap (look at notesinmadrid for entries on how to find accommodation), there are lot's of budget language schools there, and you can immerse yourself in the language. If , by the end of this period you can get your papers in order, you may be able to get yourself a job as a cook in a tavern or bar/restaurant (although to be honest you may need to enrol on a course). Having said that, we don't know your level, and maybe you'd be able to get a job in one of the many restaurants or hotels in Madrid at chef level. But without the language...

Would you employ a Chef without some formal qualifications, you need basic food safety and handle qualifications at least.

Spain is a foodie country, simply being able to fry an egg isn`t goin to get you into anything other than McDonalds or Tina & Jims cafe.

The way I read the original post, I think Dambuster is saying that he has no general academic qualifications etc, but can cook (presumably well) and presumably he must have the specific cooking related certificates etc in order to have that job at the moment. That said, I agree with all the replies on this thread and the various others that he's started, that you need more than just the idea to move to Spain in order to make it work.

Without Formal Spanish qualifications you wouldn`t get a teaching job, and teaching in Spain requires Uni level qualifications.

have cooked for 14 years.

Me too, but what sets a Chef apart from a cook ???????????

im sure i can get a job even if its cleaning in spain.

Spanish tend to employ people from Costa Rica, Cuba, Columbia etc etc that work for about 4 Euros an hour and they understand the words "work you pig" in Spanish.

Bournemouth would be a great start.

i heard Salamanca is nice and a good place to pick up spanish easier.

Why ?

Do they speak Spaningles.?

If you're going to learn Spanish, don't go to the south because it will be much more difficult for you because of the accent. If you're going to look for a job and presumably earn no much money, don't go to Madrid or Barcelona because it's much more expensive than the rest. As you said Salamanca is a good place to go as they speak a very clean Spanish, but there are many other places, it depends on what environment you prefer. I think you have to learn more about Spain and then you will know where you really want to go, but go ahead, I encourage you.

PD: By the way, sorry for my poor English.

There have been a few trolls goin around other sites with the usual boring TXT drivel.

On one site was a plan by a new member to drive his pimp`t up Nova to Barcelona as the chicks are hot and they don`t hav asbo`s.
