I have a question about file conversions. I found a handy thing on the internet that converts toutube to .avi files and there are others that convert to mp4/ipod compatible.
Most of these things expire after a while.

.avi files I can import into windowsmovie maker and mix with stuff I have filmed -however when I import a file to moviemaker that I have converted from youtube to .avi it doesn't seem to work.
Is there an application that converts ALL audio and video into EVERYTHING else.

The short version then is: I want to import youtube clips into my own video editor how can I do this.

You can use VirtualDub for converting the .avi you've downloaded from YouTube to another .avi with a different codec as DivX.

I´ve never had the urge to download from Youtube into avi (or any other format for that matter), but as I recently got myself a mp3 player with decent video capacity, I´d like to give it a go. Tad - what´s the internet tool you use to get the avi in the first place? (Even though it´s not the format you ideally want)

This is a very easy to use and free aplication to download videos in .avi format just by entering the web adress of the YouTube video.

I was using vixy (http://vixy.net/) you can use it direct from the webpage or more efficiently download it to your desktop -seems to be a limited time trial for that as mine has expired (no real problem: to uninstall it, go to their websie and download it again and reinstall took ~1min). I am sure there are a few -I'll try AlMadrid's suggestion.
