View Full Version : Firefox - anyone having problems running NFS on it?

I'm using Firefox's latest browser and quite often if I'm being a bit impatient, ie stopping a page before fully loaded or hitting the back button a couple of times it crashes on me. It does it on my laptop at home too. So annoying but I refuse to use IE! Anyone else found any problems?

mmm, a mi me funciona bien... qué versión estás usando? - Lo uso habitualmente tanto en GNU/Linux como en OS/X y no he tenido ningún problema...

Nope, I'm running the latest version and it's fine! There is always Opera....

Bad bad boy... opera is non-free software ;-)

The only thing I can think of is that I installed gtranslate as an extension. Maybe it's not happy :(

It is free!!! I have it installed and it cost nothing!

Whatd'ya mean you refuse to use IE?!?!?! It's perfectly secure, no way to get infected with spyware, not a memory hog, and it's stable as can be!

I use Firefox without problem with Windows XP/SP2
I think I read in the Firefox forum somewhere that the first thing to do if you get problems is to disable all your extensions and restart them one at a time.
I used Opera for a while and thought it was quicker than Firefox. Then I downloaded the Beta version and it all fell over! Serves me right.

Fallo mío, debería haber dicho 'no libre' :-) .

I'll try that though I really hope it isn't gtranslate as it's fab for this forum, I just right click and the english/spanish word appears :)

Gracias por la aclaracion!
De todas maneras, yo solo uso Opera para testing. Para mi Firefox siempre :)

Firefox works well, but I much prefer the favourites of IE. I have experienced no problems running either, except when I went to IE V7, then everything slowed down to a crawl.

That's because IE7 gobbles up RAM like there's no tomorrow- up to 50 megs per instance.

However, as of today, when I try to look at Notes from Spain Blog IE asks me to click a window to start an active X control and when I do IE says it has a problem and must close. Don't have this with Firefox. I always run the forum under IE with no problems. I have loaded the latest up-dates for IE, but it made no difference. NFS Blog is the only site that gives me this problem.

I had a problem getting a translate thingy working under firefox on Linux. The initial G usually means that it has been written to integrate into GNOME. Are you using Linux or Windows? If Windows, a reinstall of the OS is sometimes needed for this kind of problem, but on Linux, just of the packages it uses.

I'm using windows at work, Mac OSX at home (but haven't got the translate thingy on my mac as yet). It doesn't happen when I do things slowly so I suppose 'cuanta mas prisa, mas despacio'! Sorry, haven't figured out accents on the pc yet - god bless the mac ;)

Great, now you've done it. here come Gary and the rest of the mac zealots. ;D
Just kidding. We've discussed the mac/pc debate ad infinitum. WELCOME to NFS, Ally!

Thanks for the welcome ;D
I hate mac/pc debates ;) but if there's an easy way of doing accents on the pc then I would be grateful for the info as it's the pc I'm chained to most of the day ;)

Ally, See http://www.braser.com/pr_mk1.html
I got that from another thread in the Spanish Language part of this forum under the heading "How to type accents". There are a few other ideas there, but this little utility sits in my taskbar and I find very useful.

With Windows  XP home/Firefox
It seems good for most applications but will not work for me in this forum editor. Neither will the <alt> + numbers keys. Both shut the editor and return to original message.
It also took a while to realise the top five keys were actually the menu! Guess a few more million brain cells have gone!:'(

I have Firefox running with gTranslate with no problems. Check that you have everything updated. I have version 1.5.04 of Firefox with version 0.2.7 of gTranslate.

Don't thank me. It was someone called Sin who put it on the forum in Ben's "How to type Accents" thread. But I do find it useful.
