Hi
No I haven’t but I have heard that they are good. But a bit put off by the price £150 (http://www.wifiradioreview.com/product/46/Roberts_WM201).There is another one which is a bit cheaper if I remember. I am keen to get one soon as I can. How cool would it be to listen to Radio from Argentina when you wake up? But I have heard that it does buffer a bit so you still get the problems that you would on a Laptop

Connects to your wireless home network to listen to over 9,000 radios worldwide

Cool! You don't even have to listen to the 'radios'; it does it for you. ;)

Automatically detects all radio channels and uploads them for you to browse

But where does it upload them to?

To your brain, via your ear, I suppose.

Haha. What, all of them? Perhaps it uses some sort of Max Headroomesque blipvert compression technique to stream all 9000+ channels in parallel straight into your subconscious. Would certainly save a lot of time, that would.

Not only is that entirely plausible, I am now utterly convinced that that is what it does. £150 seems a bargain.

Aye, me too. And the only thing preventing me from purchasing such a fine apparatus forthwith is the slight detail that WLAN + foot-and-a-half solid stone internal walls = :(

If this is a dumb question please make out like it's not. With WiFi do you have to have the computer turned on or will it work if just the modem (external cable in my case) and wireless router are turned on?

What an intelligent question! Not only that, but it is exquisitely put. It's almost as if you were Einstein and Shakespeare's test-tube love child.

The answer is that if your wireless router is turned on then nothing else need be. It sounds like you have a modem and a separate wireless device, in which case they'd both need to be turned on. You will almost certainly need to have them both plugged into the mains to do this. It is also quite likely that you will need to have a cable line to connect to your cable modem. In case you were unsure, you will need a house to put all this in.

Hope this helped.

...stuff...

Hopefully you already have encryption turned on, and and MAC address whitelist on your wireless router as we speak, but don't be tempted to turn it off to get this radio to work. All sorts of terrible things could happen.

Post here if you need help.

Yes. Whatever you do, make sure you are ever vigilant for the likes of this extremely dangerous individual (http://www.comedycentral.com/videos/index.jhtml?videoId=104580).

No pulling the wool over your eyes, I see ;)

Additional item of Welsh trivia: microwave oven in Welsh is the charmingly onomatopoeic popty ping (popty means oven).

Just thought that I would share with you guys my delight at my new purchase. Tranciva IR804 WiFi Radio (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5005969/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+entertainment+and+sat+nav %7C10199181/c_2/2%7Ccat_10199181%7CPersonal+audio%7C10199283/c_3/3%7Ccat_10199283%7CPersonal+radios%7C10199286.htm) . £59.99 Really easy to setup, took about 2 minutes. Reception is excellent for all the radio stations in Spain. Latin America is good as well, depends on the bit rate of the radio station. Lots of choice and has podcasts as well. Checked for NIS and they are there. I think it is a good price as well.

You were interested in this when I started this thread...was there anything that drew you to this particular model?

I didn't get round to getting one in the end (I got a popty ping instead)

I had some argos vouchers from my work. So in the end it worked out as £10. Was restricted to the ones in that shop. But it does the job very well. You going to buy one?

I have the Roberts WM201 (£200 from John Lewis) in my home in Sweden - This is very good and would recommend without doubt. I am looking to buy a smaller (cheaper) unit for Spain. I am not sure what there is available, if anything, in Spain but will post back if I am successful. A word of caution IIRC if you want to listen to BBC and especially listen agains you will need a radio with realplayer, there are no overseas rights with WMA.

As an update I bought the Intempo GX01 from John Lewis - arrived in Spain late last night - plugged it in entered the WEP and away we go. Great value (£68) and very easy to set up. Hope this helps
