I've changed the forum background colour (what you see beyond the limits of the header image/forum template borders) from plain white to a slight warm grey/off white as I think it is easier on the eyes... any thoughts? Does it look OK on your monitor?

Errr.. glad you told me... I don't often pick up on cosmetic changes and it gets me into no end of trouble - not noticing new hairdos, nails, lipstick, perfume, etc

Yes, it does! It's not really grey-grey, but rather like grey with a hint of pink in it. :)

It often doesn't matter.
And if the sentence changes tone near the end it's a question and you must reply, "yes".
I am growing wise indeed.

I'm afraid that I did read it, and I probably wish that I hadn't too.

dont get me started on beauty products... my good lady is a beauty therapist and so a believer... but if there was one anti-wrinkle anti ageing product that actually worked there would be only one such product cos all the rest would be out of business.
Still it pays for the flights....

I like the grey - its a subtle graphical reference to the left column on NFS, boosts the corporate image... yes, I am making it up but I like it anyway.

Wasn't it more like off-white with a hint of magnolia and vanilla?

I like the grey - its a subtle graphical reference to the left column on NFS, boosts the corporate image... yes, I am making it up but I like it anyway. You may have made it up, but it's one of the reasons for the change! The other is that the white was too dazzling for my tired eyes, and this is much easier!
And as gastephen said, it's #EFEEE4, so enough of all this magnolia business! This is a hex number only environment!

I know what the F must stand for, but what about the rest?

I know what the F must stand for, but what about the rest?Easy really:
A hex triplet is a six-digit, three-byte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte) hexadecimal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexadecimal) number used in HTML (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML), CSS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascading_Style_Sheets), SVG (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Vector_Graphics), and other computing applications, to represent colors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color).
The bytes represent the red, green and blue components of the color. One byte represents a number in the range 00 to FF (in hexadecimal notation), or 0 to 255 in decimal notation.
This represents the least (0) to the most (255) intensity of each of the color components. The hex triplet is formed by concatenating three bytes in hexadecimal notation, in the following order:
Byte 1: red value
Byte 2: green value
Byte 3: blue value

I know what the F must stand for, but what about the rest?
It's the hex colour code defining the particular colour and is essentially a 3-tuple specifying a point in the colour space using the RGB model. Put another way, it is three pairs of hexadecimal digits, each giving the intensity of the red, green and blue colour components, respectively, on a scale of 0-255.
[Edit - I see Ben has just explained it when I was composing this]

Just saw this thread. Hadn't noticed up to this point (which is a good thing I would say). But I get the rationale behind it.
