Can't find a decent hotel. They are either terribly expensive or are cheaper and noisy. Looking for something within walking distance of Ramblas (10-15 minutes) with ensuite bath. Hopefully under 100 euros.
Any hidden gems ou there that people want to share?
P.S. Just booked flight from Madrid to Barcelona at 18 euros. But all the extras takes it up to 45 euros. Was going to drive but this is a better plan with no car to worry about. Cheaper than train and no transfers in Madrid.
P.S. Also booked dinner at Sant Pau.

I am staying at the Hotel Bertran http://www.hotelbertran.com/. It's on the top of the Tibadabo subway line (L7), which is a straight 10 minutes shot to Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas. It's in a real neighborhood away from the tourists. There are few good restuarants, but almost everything else that you could possibly need. My room has a kitchen and there is a grocery store a block away.
I don't think that it's a gem by any means, but I sleep well. They have parking (but since I don't drive I don't know if that is special or not).
I hope that is helpful.
If not its a cry for help in educating me about- either the neighborhood (to find good food) or better hotel deals.
It costs 25 euros by cab from the airport.

I would recommend the Banys Oriental (www.hotelbanysorientals.com). I haven't stayed there, but I did check it out last time I was in Barcelona. It's a n affordable boutique style hotel in the Born area - very close to la Iglesia de Santa Maria del Mar.

I would recommend the Banys Oriental
That looks nice. I'll explore it further.

I'll second the recommendation for the Banys Orientals; I've had a few friends stay there (and stayed there myself once) and it's a great bargain. The location is great, the hotel itself is nice and modern, and the price is very reasonable (at least by Barcelona standards). Plus, there's an excellent Basque tapas bar called Sagardi just a few doors down the street. :)
