Just returned from a trip to Barcelona - 43 degrees and rising, 50 degrees en el Metro . Anyone else suffered in Spain this summer? What did you do to survive? Do you have stories of the canicula? Tell all.......Horchata is a brilliant way to stay cooooooool, especially if granizado. What did you do to escape the heat? Maybe a TOP 5 coming on here Ben!

Haven't been to Spain this summer, but I remember 2 summers ago, escaping the heat of the day by pulling down the persianas at 8:00 AM to keep the hot air out, then opening them up again all night to cool off the oven/house.

Horchata granizado is a fantastic way to cool off! I'm also partial to the granizado de limón.

We also cooled off during the day by driving up into the mountains just at the edge of the ocean. It was literally 10-15 degrees cooler, with a nice ocean breeze continually blowing. Heaven on earth.

I remember once in August it was a hot summer in Valencia. How we escaped it? Well we didn't, not until we flew back to New York.

La canicula (la canicule in French) is the term used to describe an unusually hot wave of weather which melts everyone's brain and causes people to dehydrate, shrivel up and dream of winter snow storms.

Barcelona is hot, hot, hot.
What makes it worse is that it seems like I am the only guy that has to wear a suit to work. There is nothing more disgusting than sweating through a suit... especially when everyone else is in shorts.

Today is not as hot, but twice as humid as it has been.

Un ola de calor (o de frío en invierno)

That's why men wear guayaberas instead of suits in places like Cuba, the Philippines and Yucatán. It's their Sunday best.

Puerto Ricans also wear guayaberas frequently. I had one and they are comfortable.
