How strict a vegetarian are you? I know there are some people who call themselves "vegetarians" even though they eat fish and dairy products.

Where are you planning to visit? There are a few vegetarian restaurants in Madrid and Barcelona and you can always order Spanish tortilla wherever you go, but generally in the typical mom-and-pop type of restaurant, their idea of a vegetarian salad is one that has tuna in it. :D

If you are a hard-core vegan or a vegetarian into buying organic-only foods, etc., you're not going to have an easy time in Spain.

Although not a vegeterian, I often eat at one of these (http://www.frescco.com/)places.

I think anyone concerned with thier diet should find them quite acceptable.

Hey friends,

Basically we are from India and some of us do not eat Non-Veg food, strictly vegetarian would exclude all flesh, animal including poultry, fish and slaughter by-products.

We would visit
barcelona, ibiza, madrid, faro, gibraltar, cordoba, la linea

If any of you locals living there could suggest some good veg places to have food. :)

I have been a vegetarian for a very long time. Last summer I spent two weeks in Madrid, and survived. I frequented Fresco a lot. Maoz is another good place for a quick, inexpensive meal. I found the little restaurants off the tourist track had more options than the jamon jungle around Puerto del Sol and Plaza Mayor.
I'm returning to Madrid this Saturday and will be there for three weeks this time. I look forward to more meals at Fresco and trying some other vegetarian places like Yerbabuena and El Granero de Lavapies.

Hola todos! I am a vegetarian and last summer I studied in Granada for a month. My host mother was by no means a vegetarian, but I was so surprised that many of the meals she cooked were vegetarian! She made this outstanding!!! sopa de lentil with eggplant, zucchini, whole cloves of garlic, peppers, you name it! Que rica! She also never put meat in the paella. This could have been because she knew I did not eat meat, but usually when she made other things she would cook the meat on the side and then add it in after she had dished mine out. So all in all, there is hope and spanish food can be enjoyed and taste just as good when it is prepared vegetarian style! :)
