After the WWDC yesterday O2 have released their new tariffs
iPhones now cost £99 (8Gig) or £159 (16Gig) BUT if you sign up for a £45 tarrif they give you an 8Gig free (+£59 if you want the 16Gig)
Details here (http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/paymonthly)
Those already on iPhones can pay the £99 to upgrade to a new one or in my case move to a £45 tariff to get a new phone free. This will leave me with a spare iPhone which I am sure Wifey will be pleased to accept
Pay as you go tariffs are coming soon

Telefonica will have the new generation iPhone in July - news story (http://www.lasprovincias.es/valencia/20080610/mas-actualidad/tecnologia/apple-iphone-nuevo-200806101005.html)
El nuevo iPhone de 8 gigabytes costará como máximo unos 130 euros -199 dólares-, por lo que será mucho más asequible que su antecesor, que costaba 400 dólares, mientras que el modelo de 16 gigabytes valdrá 299 dólares.

You cant - not til July - the hard part is waiting....July AND the WAF (wife approval factor). We just purchased a Mac Mini for my son last week so we'll need at least until July, but
I have a plan;)
We are going to Boston during the first week in July, during which I'll innocently say "Hey, lets check out the new Apple store on Boylston St (http://www.apple.com/retail/boylstonstreet/)., there Steve and I will launch our attack!

NO news on prices yet here in Spain. What worries me is the monthly tarrif. I think Apple will force Telefonica to do an unlimited data plan, but how much will Telefonica try to screw us for that? My current mobile bill is between 9 and 25 euros a month (and udually 9!) Making a big jump up from that could be painful.
VS - love the plan ;)

O2 is Telefinica isnt it?I think you are right. Id' be happy to spend a max of say 30 euros a month for unlimited data. It's the mobile browser aspect of the phone that most interests me to be honest.

Recharged my Movistar card yesterday with the usual 10€ minimum for another 6 months. At present it contains a balance of over 50€.
I've used the same pay as you go system since 1996, but it's only considered as an insurance deal, in case of breakdowns or semi emergencies or phoning to say I'm not lost or is there anything else you need before I return home, boss lady.
I suppose I'm old fashioned and have no real need for mobile technology or the cost of it and I'm not too unhappy about that, even though I'd feel lost without a mobile connected to our burglar alarm when we're both out.
Bring back the wind-up gramophone, the excercise did us good and saved going to the gym!:p

The price of the new iPhone is the most interesting. Any ideas about where the profit comes from, or are they running a loss to buy into the market?

Is it true that in some countries the iPhones won't be tied into specific networks? I saw on CNN that they were saying Jobs was abandoning this approach outside of the US and UK....

The fanboys that payed £360 a pop when this thing first came out paid for the R + D (£360 x 6000000 is not a bad pickup for a years work) plus a cut of the call revenue if I know apple.
By pricing it at £99 and making it a gaming platform they move it firmly into teenage desireable christmas present territory.
An ipod Nano is £99 - if you were 11-17 why would you want one of those when youd have to carry a phone as well - for the same price you get ipod, phone, email, sms, web, video, gps.... watchem fly this year. Most kids have contract phones and with a £45/month contract O2 are giving them away free - pay as you go to follow shortly
All i have to do is to agree to another contract and theyll GIVE me one free - and I'll give mine to a friend or family member thus doubling market penetration at a stroke

I wonder if the iPhone price drop will cause a price drop to the iTouch and other related Apple products.

No hint of that in the WWDC presentation, he mentioned that hacked ones were in use all over the world, but the things are so cheap now they arent worth hacking

As i said in a previous post - the 4Gb Nano is now the same price as an iPhone - I reckon theyll cut the price to less than £50 and do away with the shuffle

That was very interesting. So, there is a sense of irony over that side of the pond! But it still comes after Swift.
But that's not the point. We are all slowcoaches. Apparently there was political satire written on the walls of Pompey. So we all lose.

But that's not the point. We are all slowcoaches. Apparently there was political satire written on the walls of Pompey. So we all lose.Did you overlook page 1, paragraphs 5 and 6 where it states " For centuries before the white invasion, teasing was a method of control of social situations by Indian people. Rather than embarrass members of the tribe publicly, people used to tease individuals they considered out of step with the consensus of tribal opinion. In this way egos
were preserved and disputes within the tribe of a personal nature were
held to a minimum.
Gradually people learned to anticipate teasing and began to tease themselves
as a means of showing humility and at the same time advocating a
course of action they deeply believed in. Men would depreciate their feats
to show they were not trying to run roughshod over tribal desires. This
method of behavior served to highlight their true virtues and gain them a
place of influence in tribal policy-making circles. '?

Apple is selling the iPhone for $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB), while the device costs $174 to make. However, it is widely believed that Apple receives $300 or $400 per device from carriers, which leaves a healthy gross margin of more than 50%. It is most likely their most profitable product ever.
