Looking for a husband???

Tomorrow is the fiesta of San Antonio. Here in Madrid, just next door to Casa Mingo for those who know it, a curious tradition (http://www.madridpedia.com/madrid/la-tradicion-de-los-alfileres-de-las-modistillas-madrilenas-en-el-dia-de-san-antonio)takes place.

The area has plenty of fun and games ready for the weekend. A funfair is already in place along the avenida de valladolid and el paseo de la florida.

When I was working in Madrid (all those years ago) I was taken to the verbena de San Antonio. Admittedly, after the inspector jefe had taken me along Paseo de la Florida to meet his friends (read bar owners who plied us with much alcohol and tapas), I don't recall much of the verbena but I do remember being told about the tradition and watching the ladies go through the agony. Of course, some might say that the agony involved in selecting a future husband was nothing like the agony that followed. ;)
